UAB, Ball State Added to Georgia Southern Football Schedules
Quote: Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced Tuesday the addition of a pair of home-and-homes to the Eagles' future football schedule as Ball State University and UAB have both agreed to contracts with Georgia Southern for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Eagles will host Ball State on Sept. 24, 2022 before playing in Muncie, Indiana, on Sept. 23, 2023. Georgia Southern will play in Birmingham at UAB on Sept. 17, 2022 and the Blazers will return the home game on Sept. 9, 2023.

RE: UAB, Ball State Added to Georgia Southern Football Schedules
I remember our Bowl game against Ball State. Their message board spent a bunch of time talking about how we had no fans, electricity, running water, or any modern amenities. Then about 25 of them tops showed up for the bowl compared to our 10K plus.
Then we blocked a field goal on the last play to win and Mohajir danced around on the field like a kid who won a year supply of candy.

UAB should be an easy one for fans of both to attend. Ball St is a good MAC add.

Don't count on UAB fans to travel to Statesboro. UAB doesn't have a large traveling fan base.

The insane part of it was they kept insisting there must not be electricity or internet in Arkansas because we weren't posting on their board, bunch of folks had registered but no one would approve the registration to let us on.

Still like the idea of our Atlanta alums getting a close by game in B-ham. When we were in the SoCon, we had tons of fans travel to Samford. The visitors section was always full. They'll have a good amount of us there in 2022.

To be fair, you only needed to bring like 50 fans to fill up the visitor's section of Samford's high school stadium.

Queue the UAB posters to come on here and say they do have a large fan base ... since the whole city of Birmingham is behind UAB football now.

Care to elaborate on what that means? Because if you're trying to say Troy doesn't have a better traveling fan base than UAB, then think again.

So in 2014, you're comparing UAB attendance, who had one of their best seasons in YEARS (6-6) to a South Alabama team, who was in their second year of FBS football, and a Troy team that had their worst record since 1982. You're reaching hard.
The 2016 Troy attendance is pretty good compared to most G5's, so that doesn't really help your argument.
The fact of the matter is, UAB never brought shiz to Troy. At the most I'd say UAB has brought 70 people to the visitor section, which is pathetic for a team that's a little over 2 hours away.
Mobile is a further drive, and even USA brings more fans to Troy than UAB ever has. Likewise, just ask USA how many Troy fans traveled to Mobile this year... we took over their whole endzone stand, plus some.
And let's not forget this little gem:

Played against Troy at their place twice and went on several recruiting visits. Don't think attendance was anything larger than 18k (during their sunbelt championship run)... terrible attendance for the amount of success the program has had.

Well, when we had to play losing programs like UAB, FIU, FAU, and UNT... all of which have all-time losing records (except UNT who is 3 losses away from that accomplishment)... the result was always going to be less than spectacular attendance. There are still people to this day that have no idea what an FAU or FIU is.
Proof: The last time Southern Miss, who is routinely at the top of CUSA in attendance, played FAU/FIU was in 2013, and both games were the lowest attended games that year for USM. Why? Because those aren't schools that make a fan say "I've GOT to go to this game."
Kudos for ignoring the facts of my previous post also.

Because it's our board and we can say whatever we want about your dumpster fire. The only mistake your administration made was shutting it down a year to late. Had they shut it down before 2014 you guys would probably be in the Big East right now and no one would have said a thing.
So the question is, would you rather still play football at Legion Field or play basketball with 'Nova, Georgetown and the other BE big boys???

I'm happy when any away team brings fans to Paulson (don't believe the Appy fans we aren't that bad and you will likely find plenty of free food/drinks if you wonder around the tailgate lots). GS is known for having a decent to great traveling fan base (just ask Alabama, Ole Miss, NCST, etc...). We would routinely fill other stadiums with our fans if they are within 2-3 hour drive from Statesboro or ATL. That's why I'm hoping we schedule MTSU. Would be an easy road trip and I have a place to crash.
GS fans are happy with the UAB add and hope we can play you guys more often. Not so happy with Ball State, we just can't get excited for the MACtion.

I'm good with both UAB and Ball St. Heck many of our fans have been whining about not getting 6 home games (me included) so any H&H with a G5 team is good in my book.
