We would routinely fill other stadiums with our fans if they are within 2-3 hour drive from Statesboro or ATL. That's why I'm hoping we schedule MTSU. Would be an easy road trip and I have a place to crash.
GS fans are happy with the UAB add and hope we can play you guys more often. Not so happy with Ball State, we just can't get excited for the MACtion.
I'm good with both UAB and Ball St. Heck many of our fans have been whining about not getting 6 home games (me included) so any H&H with a G5 team is good in my book.
I'm just basing this on posts from the fan site and facebook.
TK can't win. We got like 25% that just want easy wins, 25% want to play the big boys, 25% want lots of home games and the rest will ***** about the times. TK gets the home and home to give is 6 home games and people whine that these teams won't draw flies and would rather play a money game. Its a no win situation.
There is constructive criticism and then there is whining. GS fans whine a lot.

Not saying you can't, but it is still.
Winning cures all. There will always be whining, but it will be severely diminished after a 10-2 or 9-3 season. Most people are just extra whiny right now because we went 5-7 last season.

I agree. This goes way back though - some of our fans wanted us to schedule regular season games all the time with the likes of Montana, UD, NDSU, EWU,JMU etc. WHY?
We'd see them in the playoffs if they made it!
We need the money games and I like playing a "big boy" or two some years. But we don't have the same recruiting advantages that they do. It isn't fair to ourselves to play a bunch of harder games week in and week out when we don't have the same recruiting power as those teams. We don't have 5 years of stocked FBS recruited players much less with the signing power of the P5. It's simply harder to win those games than if we were in their conferences. And then some folks want to through in the hardest G5 teams possible on top of that?
Just like in the FCS. WIN the conference! WIN against 1 P5 team (or at least come dang close if you can't) and beat as many OOC teams as possible - their rank doesn't matter. Do that and you'll be in the discussion for the Access bowl every year. THAT will give you Boise State like coverage and then your recruiting power gets a boost.
In the mean time, WINNING will bring fans. I don't want to schedule Houston(which we've done and that's fine), Boise, Navy etc every year. At least not now.
I like both of these games on the schedule. We NEED 6 home games, especially since we know we are going to lose at least 1 home Saturday per year to ESPNU.
to TK - Good job! GATA

Roll Blue Tide!
If you adjust the color settings on your sets and count the NC's of each team... the differences become a little hard to discern.
Georgia Southern teams were originally known as the Blue Tide. A name change was in store after World War II, and the Blue Tide became the Professors. (Football was disbanded after the war and did not return until 1982, when school teams had adopted the Eagles moniker. The football team did not play as the Professors. ) In 1959, the students voted on the new mascot, and Eagles was chosen over Colonels by a narrow margin.

Don't count on UAB fans to travel to Statesboro. UAB doesn't have a large fan base.

Lets see, UAB last played a college football in 2014.
2014 Attendance
UAB 21,841
South Alabama 17,445
Troy 16,767
2015
Troy 19,399
South Alabama 16,039
2016
Troy 22,534
South Alabama 16,250
Somone please tell me why are Troy & USA fans throwing out attendance smack?
So in 2014, you're comparing UAB attendance, who had one of their best seasons in YEARS (6-6) to a South Alabama team, who was in their second year of FBS football, and a Troy team that had their worst record since 1982. You're reaching hard.
The 2016 Troy attendance is pretty good compared to most G5's, so that doesn't really help your argument.
The fact of the matter is, UAB never brought shiz to Troy. At the most I'd say UAB has brought 70 people to the visitor section, which is pathetic for a team that's a little over 2 hours away.
Mobile is a further drive, and even USA brings more fans to Troy than UAB ever has. Likewise, just ask USA how many Troy fans traveled to Mobile this year... we took over their whole endzone stand, plus some.
And let's not forget this little gem:
I know at Troy they teach you that after you count to 100 start over... But this is a little help from video and pics.

hen we blocked a field goal on the last play to win and Mohajir danced around on the field like a kid who won a year supply of candy.
The insane part of it was they kept insisting there must not be electricity or internet in Arkansas because we weren't posting on their board, bunch of folks had registered but no one would approve the registration to let us on.
I remember lurking on their message board like..
Just approve our registration so we defend ourselves and talk some football! Worst fan interaction leading up to bowl game ever.....nothing!

Reminds me of when we played Bowling Green and they were boohoo-ing about being forced to play a SunBelt team that was apparently so far beneath them and then they got stomped into the mud literally.
RE: UAB, Ball State Added to Georgia Southern Football Schedules
" The last time Southern Miss, who is routinely at the top of CUSA in attendance, played FAU/FIU was in 2013, and both games were the lowest attended games that year for USM. Why? Because those aren't schools that make a fan say "I've GOT to go to this game."
Kudos for ignoring the facts of my previous post also."
Thats cherry picking...
The reason for the low attendance for the FAU vs Southern Miss game was that they were 0-9 at that point. We beat them 41-7 that year(we also went 6-6 that year).
The only game they won that year was against UAB. All the southern miss home games that season were in the 20-23k range. FAU 20,800 MTSU the very next week was 22,134. As a comparison FIU was 21,891.

Poor Troy fan. Still butthurt over the ass whipping we put on the lowly Trojans in 2014.

Attalla, has Birmingham made any progress on a new stadium??? I haven't heard anything lately on the news or sports radio, didn't know if you guys had been discussing on your board and have any inside information.
