RE: OT: Liberty to FBS
Set long contracts with NMSU and UMass. Chase the App, GSU, GS, Charlotte, and ODUs of the regional area. Add a couple body bag games and you are good to go.
I am thinking the only way they ever get a bowl is if there aren't enough spots filled. Maybe they get lucky and get a BYU deal but I think it'll be more like UMass and NMSU.
Is this for all sports or only football?

The Football Bowl Subdivision is only for football.

BYU, Army, UMass, NMSU beginning in 2018 will all be Indy's. There ain't a judge in America that will uphold that NCAA rule.

I get that but will their current conference keep their other sports or tell them to get the heck out?

They are still part of the Big South and will be. Don't forget the mutual relationship with that other conference that escapes my memory right now.

Nah. We need UTA and Little Rock.

Cue Nodak explaining how this leads to the Big Sky moving up to FBS.

What if you tell the judge in the 9th circuit they're a christian organization...
Congrats to Liberty, they aren't settling. App better get ready for another opponent on the recruiting trail.

The Flamers were Coastal's biggest rival when we were slumming in the Small South.
Can someone tell me what happened between Liberty and the Sun Belt in the past? It's mentioned on ESPN.com right now that the Flamers tried "unsuccessfully" to join our conference before...

The story seems to go that they wanted in, and even offered up some extra cash to join, but were rejected due to some combination of political baggage that doesn't sit well with a lot of university presidents and academic baggage that doesn't sit well with a lot of folks in higher education.
EDIT: Oh, and there's the alternative idea that they were rejected because of bias against conservative Christians, so if you'd rather look at it that way, you can.

RE: OT: Liberty to FBS
Falwell Jr flew his jet to every Sun Belt town and wined and dined with the suits. In the end, "they didn't have the votes" according to our lord and savior Karl Benson. Reasons were their baggage and there was a concern with how they would recruit at an FBS level. Also, the perception of being an online diploma mill hurt them as university presidents aren't going to like that.

If there is a judge in America that would rule for the NCAA they probably will come from that bunch. But it'll only be a minor set back until Liberty appeals to the Supreme Court.

We tried to wear crosses on our helmet and our town is known as "The City of Churches". Our team's slogan has been Faith. Family. Fun.
Our bias against conservative Christians is strange no?

RE: OT: Liberty to FBS
Question: Since the NCAA is willing to cave on the rule about needing an invite from a conference, does that make rules about FCS teams creating new conference in FBS pretty much moot?

Which school will be the next to announce their intent to move from FCS to FBS?

I'm sure an FCS conference could probably pull that off but good luck to them in getting any CFP dollars.
Congrats to Liberty.

App won't be scheduling them. Anti-neanderthal policy.

Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, EKU, Montana, NDSU, you name it. Apparently anyone can be FBS now if you just believe hard enough...

It entertains me that there are two ways to interpret this, and I'm not sure which one you meant.
