We drew flies to the Presbyterian Game we never wanted to schedule. 2 FCS home games...against teams we could care less about.. generates 11k attendance.
These metrics are interesting, but there's so much inflation and miscounting going on....you really can't use these numbers to show much.
Look at FIU's stadium (not to pick on them - but just to show them as an example that published official attendance numbers aren't really indicative of much more than how the various Athletic Departments count).
And those are probably the best two games for attendance for them. Averaging 17k? No way.
Yeah,I attended the Troy game and thought it was closer to 32-33K just eyeballin' it.
You would likely have the same impression at any Jags game as have many other visitors like yourself, and as do all of the locals. It's a well-known problem because the stadium isn't owned and operated by USA and scanning equipment is frequently out of operation and the city doesn't hold its employees accountable to do a manual count after each game for the thousands of non-scanned tickets like they should. USA may be the only FBS team who ONLY counts scanned tickets, which is why this is a continual and (again) a well-known problem amongst we Jags fans.
The good news is, we have an OCS in the planning stages and within a couple of seasons this should no longer be a problem for South.
Does it matter whether tickets are scanned or not? I thought attendance was tickets sold plus student ID's scanned.
USA only counts scanned tickets.
Well that's stupid on their part. If the ticket is sold you should count it.

I couldn't agree more. If USA counted tickets the way everyone else did we'd be way up the leaderboard in our conference and way above average versus all G5's.

So, which are the crappy MAC stadiums? How many MAC and Sun Belt stadiums have you been to? What major college/pro stadiums have you been to? Doesn't the MAC play under the same weather conditions as the Big 10? The fact that I see 20,000+ for a number of those mid week games. I don't see it as an excuse.
I have been to every MAC stadium but Yaegar and Penden. I have been to a handful of what I call crappy/ directional Florida institutions (FAU and FIU)... Those have WAY nicer stadiums than the average MAC school for a mediocre product.
The Glass Bowl, Infocision and Penden are probably the only above average stadiums in the MAC. The rest are barely average??? Waldo has some perks... It needs renovating badly though. StAte's place was nicer than the Glass Bowl minus the history factor we pride ourself on. Every conference has a group of lesser stadiums, but even Lab Peebles is nicer than Kent, BG, EMU, CMU, and Miami. NIU has potential with their new indoor... It's appealing to the eye? I have been in every MAC press box... Some schools have some work to do to get anywhere close to what I saw at FAU, or even the random stadium in Little Rock.
Well, we are playing 3 SBC schools in 2017, granted one is on the road and hosting Ohio as well. (All games will be on campus except there is a rumor that one game could be at Fenway Park. Personally not a fan of travelling, parking and having the game at Fenway.)
Will give my opinion. Press&Skybox above average. Hospitality suite in the Performance Center, food selection, parking and tail gating overall average. Concession areas and stadium size below average. Same with attendance, tickets scan a few hundred below 15k. Assume the tickets sold will make it the 15k number.
Adding Fenway Park rumor source:

It would be awesome for the players to play at Fenway Paaahk, though I could see it be a hassle for season ticket holders.

False. You use paid attendance like everyone else. Not actual. The only actual part of your attendance is student tickets, which are scanned.
Athletic Director Joel Erdmann told AL.com that the process follows NCAA guidelines.
"Our attendance is calculated following NCAA guidelines, basically paid attendance, which has sub-definitions to ticket price levels etc., or actual attendance figures, whichever is greater," he said.
"Student actual attendance is added to the paid figures; there are caveats but those are the general guidelines," he added.

Same for Southern I believe since students dont buy tickets. I didnt think for one minute USA only counted scanned. Who would, it makes no sense and no upside.

That article is two years old and that's not how it worked out for Mr. Erdmann. The problem is the staff at Ladd-Peebles work for the city and not the university and they don't follow USA's rules or even seriously entertain USA's wishes. These are the MAJOR "caveats" of which our AD has alluded to, and this is why I stated this problem will be fixed once we have our OCS.
You don't visit here often or you'd realize this is old news and serious discrepancies in the reported attendance and actual attendance at USA seriously DO exist, and not only noted by we South fans but many of our visiting fans as well.

If we ever play USF at Ladd, don't bother buying a ticket.
Just wave a gas station receipt at them as you walk in.
I give you a 75% chance of getting in.
Especially if you use the SW gate.
Unless those girls have scanners in their retinas, I didn't get scanned once this season.

Ha! You're right, they'd probably let you in with any colorful rectangular piece of paper if you just waved it at them and stuffed it back into your pocket.

What's interesting is ALL the CUSA schools below 20K are former Sun Belt schools. The "Move Up" REALLY gave them a boost in attendance.
Charlotte was in the Sun Belt a long time ago, but never for football.
Actually, 6-13 from CUSA are all former SBC members.
9 of 12 AAC teams are from CUSA. I don't think attendance would change for a school when going from SBC to CUSA. It didn't change a lot for the AAC teams that were in CUSA.
It's wrong. Whoever computed it put our attendance for the UC game as 22,316, which was the attendance of the Temple AT UConn game. It was 29,763 for UC @ Temple.
