California family booed on flight bringing home soldier killed in Afghanistan
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/california-f...istan-dad/

Quote:The father of a slain Northern California soldier said his family was booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home from Afghanistan, CBS Sacramento station KOVR-TV reports.

Sgt. John Perry was killed on Saturday in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber.

His father, Stewart Perry, mourned the loss of his son at a service on Thursday.

“Most importantly, I want people to know about the heroic thing that my son did,” he said.

His son stumbled on the suicide bomber before he could reach his target, a soldiers’ 5K Veterans Day run.

“He would have killed possibly 100, 200, who knows?” Perry said.

Perry said his son’s death comes comes at a time military service is facing disrespect. He said his family was even booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home over a delay.

“To hear the reaction of the flight being delayed because of a Gold Star family and the first class cabin booing, that was really upsetting, and it made us cry some more,” he said.

Sorry for the loss, but real reporting would require interviews of people on the plane to confirm what this guy says.
The booing might have been about the flight delay only or maybe did not happen.

Disgraceful! I can't imagine the family listening to that on the plane bringing their son home to be buried. Just can't. Military personnel and police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty to serve (voluntarily) and to protect deserve respect, honor and thanks. To act in ways or to have feelings less than this shows how far down in the pit where many people's hearts and souls have fallen.

Yeah, I took that as they were booing the delay. That being said, if during the announcement the explanation of the why for the delay was made, I would expect the booing to stop immediately. If it continued after the passengers knew why then shame on them. They are perfectly free to still be upset about being delayed but they can keep it to themselves and be respectful.

Quote:According to the Stockton Record, Stewart Perry, an ex-Marine himself, his wife Kathy and their daughter were flying to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to pick up the remains of their son, 30-year-old Sgt. John W. Perry. A connecting flight in Phoenix was delayed, and to make sure the family didn't miss their next plane, the captain asked the passengers to stay seated so a "special military family" could exit first.

Perry told the paper that's when several passengers in first class began to boo the family. The father also said the passengers were complaining about having to wait to exit the plane.
