It's scary to see the # of people who are comparing this shooting to the Alton Sterling shooting.

They are in NO WAY alike.

RE: Philando Castile shooting...
Terrible tragedy.

The victim made a fatal mistake that caused this trigger happy cop to panic. We are taught to keep your hands on the wheel in clear sight and to make sure the officer knows you are a CCW holder and that you have a weapon in the vehicle. You do not remove your hands from the wheel until he gives you instructions. You allow him to dictate the situation from that point for everyones safety.

I never carry my weapon in my pocket...period. It is not the place you want your weapon in a self defense situation. The one exception might be if you have a specialized pocket holster designed specifically for your weapon. If you have it in your vehicle it needs to be in a location that speeds access to the weapon. Carrying in you pocket...in a car...is pretty stupid. We see that this was a variable in this tragedy.

I have a special holster that fits securely between my seat and the center console of my vehicle. I can access the weapon as fast as if it was on my hip and it can not be seen from the driver side window. If I am stopped by a cop? I have my ID,CCW and registration ready for him when he approaches the vehicle and I keep my hands on the steering wheel at all times.

My only problem with the CCW is that there seems to be varying standards of training from state to state. I would like for there to be a national standard for training and that EVERYONE must qualify on a range and show both marksmanship and safety skills before being issued a permit. I know many CCW holders that only took the written test and never fired a weapon in front of the instructor. I think this is both stupid and dangerous. Id be interested to know what the level of training the victim of this tragedy had.

Yea I was telling a friend that part of the reason we see the anger is because guys like Mike Brown are being lumped in with Philando Castile.

Absolutely. The BLM crowd rallies around seemingly every police shooting of a black person instead of the ones that truly seem like cases of abuse of power / poor training / whatever makes cops do dumb things.

When you rally around people with long rap sheets that were resisting arrest and armed, you lose credibility.

Then black people setting fire to cities and shooting innocent cops makes people move from discrediting your message to outright hating you. BLM is moving black people backwards.

Quite eye-opening for me, agreed.

I've been chewing on this a bit on why even this guy was pulled over, and why the cop had has firearm at the ready. From everything I can see it was because of a broken or malfunctioning taillight. Considering your taillight can go out on the way home when it worked that morning, I think pulling people over for a broken tail light is ridiculous. And having your firearm unholstered and at the ready?

But this is what happens when you turn police force into nothing more than overzealous tax collectors.

When over half the country (leftists and libertarians) have declared war on you then you assume a war footing.

I've never had a cop approach me with a gun drawn, or even his hand on his gun.

I concur with you guys.

I hate seeing these "lists" that lump all the shooting victims' names together for affect, as if they all fit the same script. Rather, each had its own set of circumstances.

Some of the shootings were justifiable, some questionable (or at least inconclusive) or unjustifiable.

Though parallels to the 1950s/1960s abound, the beatings and killings of black people back then were really indiscriminate and random. There was rarely justification. If you were minding your own business, or had the audacity of smiling at a white woman, you were targeted.

Reminds me of people flocking to defend that rancher as a symbol of what was wrong with the government.

That not a problem. It's pretty standard for a cop to approach with his hand over his weapon and stop slightly behind the window to talk to someone.

Ive been stopped by cops several times for traffic violations. This is the first and only time Ive ever seen someone do that.

I the three or four times I remember being stopped they always approach the car like that. Once they get to my window, see my hands, and address me then the hand comes off the pistol.

Yea, they are trained to do it that way. It allows them a quick retreat, but also, its hard for a driver to pull a gun, swing it around and pull it accross their body to fire at someone at the back of the driver side window.

They are all supposed to do it that way, but obviously, not all them do. But with all the recent stuff going on, I think the departments have been pushing their officer to return to performing stops like that.
