I think that list is missing the big that committed to UC. UC's prized recruit for 2017-2018 is transfer Cane Broome and he isn't included in that list either. Did you read the part where UC recruited the best shooter? Did you look at the schools ranked ahead of UC and realize they are the other basketball heavyweights in this league: UConn, Temple, Memphis, and SMU.

This recruiting class looks like it fills needs on already deep roster of returning players. The Bearcats could bring in zero freshmen next year and have a top 25 roster based on who they have returning.

You got it right. UC is recruiting into the AAC now. Please, its not Mick or whoever is his eventual replacement. It's that we are no longer in an elite basketball conference like the Big East. I see that Xavier out recruited us again. What league are they in?

A lot of our (local) fans do not understand the strength of the Big East brand on the east coast. 18-22 year old kids who grew up in NY, NJ, MD, PA, etc. believe/believed Big East basketball is the pinnacle of college basketball. Although the ACC has surpassed them in that region, it is still rated very highly. It is hard for us to recruit in that part of the country now when we are primarily playing in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee.

Xavier now is getting all the benefit of being in the BE. This and the fact they make 2X the money we do on the TV contract without football is a huge punch in the gut to UC athletics.

Not buying it, will believe that X gets a bounce being in the BE. Not being able to recruit to a high level in the AAC is easily debunked by UConn.

Thanks. Not including transfers and other players seems to make the rankings a bit skewed.

No idea, is this good? Thought we'd do icily recruiting and don't know if this is a good haul or not.

Based on the videos I've watched, I do think these guys are a little better than their rankings. But I wouldn't call this a stud class. Without something dramatic (conference change, Mick hiring an O-Coordinator) or lucky (big upset in UC's bracket in the tourney) happening I don't see UC basketball being any different as long as Mick is the coach.

Thanks. I'm sure we hope for a bit more but I'm also happy that we're doing pretty well. Trying to balance those 2 positions the difficult part.

You made my point, but you didn't realize it. UConn when recruiting into the Big East brought in Napier and most of the contributors to the 2014 Championship team. Now that they are recruiting into the AAC, they missed the 2015 tourney losing in the first round of the NIT and lost in the second round of the NCAA's (sound familiar) in 2016.

A bigger loss was Jim Calhoun. Most of those 2014 players were his recruits.

RE: Basketball Off season tidbits
I'm as huge Cronin supporter, but recruiting is not good enough for UC to be a top 15 type team more than every once in a while (like this year!?). They've been trying to fill the holes with transfers, but that's fraught with problems too. Typically, you end up with guys who are good at one thing--like Ellis and Rubles were great on D, DeBerry provided some offense underneath, Cobb could shoot the three, and it looks like Broome will be a little scorer--but one thing only. I'm hopeful that a new arena will kickstart things, but we shall see. The AAC is a drag, for sure. If Jacob Evans could become a legitimate star and get drafted (both of which are possible, but probably not this year), that would help, I think. Getting Cumberland was huge too.

Maybe I missed it in prior communications, but UCATS just sent out an email about buying more tickets and slid in this little tidbit .... the UCATS Club is no more. The 6th floor has been repurposed with suites, and the 5th floor is for group sales only.

Did they just take another benefit away?

It is the first step of the arena renovation. It was announced months ago that it would be done.
