They pretty much all support the legality firing people for being LGBT, denying LGBT people a hotel room or a meal for the same, etc. Trump supports that, at least today, as his latest statement on HB2 is supportive of it. Maybe tomorrow he will tweet something else.

I'm actually surprised the NBA actually acted. Good for them.

pretty much all....LOL...

denying a hotel room or a meal?

Drama queen much?

HB2 removed those protections and confirmed that it is LEGAL for a LGBT person to be fired for being Gay, or denied a hotel room or a restaurant meal for the same.

And North Carolina's hateful GOP could have passed a law banning that discrimination. But they didn't. And they banned municipalities from doing their own bills. And the GOP in Congress could have passed a bill to do the same. But they didn't.

If you think it never happens, then why does the GOP oppose making it illegal to do so.

03-melodramatic the hateful GOP.

What protections where there before, and show me how they were removed.

In Charlotte, LGBT people would have been protected had the GOP said.."Lets make it legal for people to fire them simply because they are Gay".

Spin it however you want, but NC's GOP (and ALL of it) decided to fully endorse that discrimination.

That's a lie. The GOP didn't wake up one day and decide to suddenly make it legal to fire someone for being gay as if it were illegal the day before.

Tell me Tom, do you ***** and moan as much about being able to be fired for being gay in Texas?

If that's not enough for you, move someplace else.

That worthless bill doesn't protect LGBT persons from employment or public accommodations discrimination. It provides some clawback of protections removed for straight persons only.

People are moving from NC. Events, conventions, etc. And they aren't moving to NC in response.

the number of people who move to or from NC because of this will be negligible. Let's not be hyperbolic. Now on events and conventions, I agree.

That's not what I meant. I think that this will impact NC's ability to recruit new businesses.

not really. Businesses will continue to go where the pool of talented people are. This will die down.

Actually, I blame the GOP for that in Texas too. There's plenty of advocacy of discrimination here. I left my first job in Houston because of it. Signed emails calling me names. Straight porn in my email. Nasty names directed at me. This was before the Oncale decision. I had no recourse at all. I can name several big companies here in Houston where if you are out, you're career is in serious peril or you've had your last promotion.

To pass a bill for the specific purpose of making something legal is the same thing as saying "Go right ahead...do it". And that is HB2

Fine, leave Texas. Go some place like California or Massachusetts.

Actually, I'm working to change everywhere. Not everyone can move. If you want to live in a place where you can abuse or discriminate against LGBT persons, Might I suggest Russia, Jamaica or Iran as your next stop?

If you want to move to a place that abuses gays, just ask for a copy of Hillary's big donor list.

I'm not the one bitching. Leave. Go someplace else. Maybe you can start a fund for relocating gays to gay friendlier states.

You know tom I am one of those evil Christians who think what you are doing is a sin. yet I've worked with many homosexuals and not once done *anything* like you describe.

I have to wonder what it is that you do in the work place to engender such bitterness because most people would not dare to send porn of any kind to a coworker.

Put aside any lgbtqlmnop issues. Accessing that kind of material from a corporate resource will get you fired almost on the spot.

He didn't say when. I saw some of this 10 or 15 years ago. You are right, nowadays it will get you terminated quick.

We terminated people for distributing porn via work email as far back as 1996.

Actually there were some firings for the porn. But not for the emails. It was an old school gas trading desk. Of course that company had 3 sexual (straight) harassment lawsuits going on at the same time, and had their trading system collapse under the weight of all the porn being downloaded on their old internet connection.

Btw, I'm still close friends with many people from that office. But even that didn't protect me from abuse.

The big changes came as a result of the Oncale decision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oncale_v._...es%2C_Inc.

But even that couldn't protect the people in Missouri.. And they don't fully protect those in North Carolina.

This!

How about here. http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/laws...n#stream/0

It happens. Even today. And most of the time, it never hits a court. Because who is going to take that to court if there's no recourse? Sure, many major companies don't discriminate. But many do. And many government contractors do too.

I can name several big companies here in Houston where if you are out, you're career is in serious peril or you've had your last promotion.

Actually there were some firings for the porn.

I'm just going to let the bold here point out your penchant for making drama..

The people who sent me the porn weren't fired. Others were (mainly because they damaged the internet connections with all the downloading). And then they said "see what can happen". And the people who called me names in front of everyone weren't even disciplined. I was educated and so I could just walk down Smith Street and go get another job. Others aren't so lucky.

RE: North Carolina's Anti LGBT law
Don't know if this deserves its own thread....

But the NCAA is taking a few steps to get on board too. I doubt they're really serious. Seeing as they have member institutions that don't allow Gays or Jews to participate in their athletic programs.

Is the Belk Bowl in jeopardy? How about the NCAA hosting rights for the basketball tourneys? How about baseball regionals? I don't think they'll actually pull anything, but I suspect that NC might be getting set up for the "Mississippi treatment" by the NCAA's. And if the NCAA and the NBA start cracking down, it will start putting pressure on the most anti-gay sport (the NFL) to start making some moves too. Again, its just a questionnaire, but the NCAA appears to be data collecting.

I'm not saying they're actually going to pull regionals, but that would get everyone's attention very quickly. Looks like they're getting some ducks in a row.

Hosting a NCAA regional in a state where the legislature has decided to demand that a post op Trans man born in Tennessee is required by law to use the ladies room isn't going to go over well. And since the Greensboro Coliseum is owned by the city, won't it be an issue? By the way, its very likely that it will be publicly tested. It won't make for good optics for the anti-Trans folks. Imagine cell phone cameras showing the humiliation of a MAN having to use the ladies room. The ugly questions of the other patrons. The ugly comments. The humiliation of having to go to the bathroom with a security detail. Its not going to look pretty. And what do you think the response of the students at the schools would be to that?

NC didn't resolve the problem of the Trans man born in Tennessee, Ohio, Idaho, or Kansas. Because they couldn't without exposing the state to even more ridicule. Are they going to hand out bathroom cards at the airport or welcome centers (basically a license to pee) to Trans persons who cannot get their legal gender changed? Kansas ain't never passing a bill to stop humiliating its Trans people. Neither will Tennessee. Because the GOP that controls those states will not ever accept that gender can change.

Beyond the discriminatory treatment at the facilities, all LGBT persons attending potential NCAA events in North Carolina face discrimination at hotels/bnbs, restaurants, etc. Having the state announce "Go right ahead - discriminate away!" is not consistent with a welcoming environment.

We shall see what the NCAA does. And then we shall see if the Trans community decides to show the ugly face of HB 2 by daring to comply with it at a NCAA regional for everyone to see.
