I don't see a good reason to prostitute ourselves out. Monmouth getting hosed should tell us that. Several factors hurt our schedule this year and I wont rehash it all. Ill put something together soon.
Dropping all of the RPI killers (Jax St, ASU, Troy, etc) from our schedule would be one of the biggest improvements.

Playing a couple of instate schools every year serves a larger purpose than RPI ratings. We are trying to elevate the status of basketball in Alabama toward what it is in some other states. Alabama's reputation as a "football only" state hurts UAB's (as well as perhaps those other state schools) recruiting in other states and internationally. (Two of UKY's five starting players
last Sunday were from other countries)
The state's D1 schools have arguably the best combination of BBHCs in history. If these schools can't recruit the number of top players needed to compete with the likes of Duke, UNC, Kan, UKY, etc. now, when can we expect to do so?

Some of those games were required as part of the Emerald City tournament.
Not to mention many were required to maintain our Conference USA membership.

I don't think anybody is asking us to take the Monmouth approach.

So you're talking the CBE Classic next season with KU, Georgia, and George Washington. And it's not like the SEC has been lighting the college basketball world on fire as of late so what teams are we talking about?
Anywho, I'll be in Raliegh, NC on Saturday checking out the UNC and Virginia in the 3rd round of the Dance.

Georgia and GW are the type of non conference games we need to be aiming for. Both are established programs in good (enough) leagues that there's reason to believe they will both be top 100 teams next year, and both of games are winnable. Kansas is a different beast of course but it helps our RPI even if we lose.
