Like many other mid majors, no quality team wanted to play them on their homecourt. So Monmouth's coach said instead of playing a bunch of bad RPI teams, they opted to play on the road against good teams. The result:

Win or lose tonight, Monmouth will be in the Field of 68.

I get it doing it, but that would be awful!!! I would be pissed if UAB only had 1 non conference home game. We can play them all at the BJCC neutral.

That wouldn't work. It would still be deemed an homecourt advantage.
No thanks. I'll stick with a sucky schedule.

That said next years schedule will be better from what I am hearing. No it won't be great but it will be better.
Monmouth's scheduling was an extreme that will payoff for them but I wouldn't want UAB to do that. But I would be in favor of some one and dones with a quality opponent on the road.
If I were a Monmouth season ticket holder, I would not be happy.
They beat us in Bartow Arena. Raise your hand if you witnessed that in person.

That RPI is no guarantee to get Monmouth in the big dance. They would have a chance, but definitely are not comfortably in.
Maybe I'm not objective, but I also think teams would take Monmouth coming into their house a little more lightly than they would UAB come to their house.

Who said anything about their RPI, their resume is tournament worthy. They are a lock to be in the field.

RPI is a big factor, especially for mid majors. They are by no means a lock to get in, and if they do get in, their seed will reflect that. They are on the bubble and it's not even debatable.
They have 3 200+ losses. Sure, they have a couple top 50 wins at the beginning of the season when these upsets are more typical. I don't buy how they are a shoe in with 3 dumpster fire losses

They are in the Dance and that's not debatable. Yeah they'll be an 11 or 12 seed but they are in. RPI is a factor but so are many other factors, true road game wins, BPI, they have road wins over Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Rutgers. They beat USC at home. They are in the Dance.

And so you're trying to downplay their Top 50 RPI wins? Funny. UAB has made the Dance with dumpster fire losses on several occasions. Monmouth will be in the Dance and I would place a wager with anyone who think otherwise.

You cannot be that sure of it. They have 4 top 100 wins. They have mediocre SOS and RPI numbers. They are the definition of a bubble team.

Yes I can.

They have a good shot at making it in but they're not a lock.
