This is shaping up to be the most controversial Oscars since the early 1970's (when Jane Fonda, Marlon Brando and others said whatever they wanted to).

We all thought it was hilarious and that it was one of the best opening monologues the Oscar's had.

Same here. He blasted Hollywood and the protestors and was funny doing it. Figures this Klan rally disguised as a message board wouldn't like it.

Excellent.

Hopefully this opens people's eyes to one of the biggest issues facing humanity which is systematic racism. You give me a category in this years Oscars and I can give you a worthy African-American. Too bad "whitey" doesn't see it that way. Doesn't matter now, deserving or not you can bet an African-Anerican will be winning an Oscar in one of the major categories for at least the next five years and even that won't be enough.

Meaning not important in the least.

Won't be enough for what? You think hollyweird is going to "solve" something? 03-lmfao

That would have been a good line. White South African, but still African.

Actually... yes I can believe it.

I watched a grand total of 10 minutes. Got so bored by the allegedly funny monologue, I changed the channel. Heard some of the 'greatest' and 'funniest' bits from last night on EW radio, and they were anything but. Thank goodness I watched The Walking Dead instead!!

RE: The Oscars and Chris Rock
I lost a bit of respect for Chris. I knew he had to comment on the foolish omission of diversity...but...He forgot to know when "enough was enough". Ill will give him cred though for the Will Smith joke. I thought he would make his point and move on. There was a point where he went from funny to boring..and then to pandering. I always considered him more of iconoclast that evidently he is when under media an public pressure.

I actually thought the Stacy Dash bit was the best thing they did. She is evidently is so hated by the liberals that were in attendance that the second she appeared they did not hear a word that was spoken. That speaks volumes for the tolerance of the Left and its sense of humor. I got the joke immediately. Im amazed at how few people did not.

The whole thing was hard to watch IMO.

Hollywood has not learned yet that most people just want to see movie awards not political hypocrisy.

That's hilarious.

Sharpton is crowing, saying his boycott was the driver.

I think it had more to do with the nominated movies. Very few were watched by a lot of people.

Roughly 20 years ago, the Oscars were packed with big names: Jerry Maguire, Apollo 13, Titanic, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, etc.

This year's nominees won't come close to the staying power and pop-culture icon status of those mid 90s nominees.

I was going to say something similar Motown. Pretty telling when the new Star Wars film doesn't win one single Oscar.

also there are about 15 million things people can watch on demand, why would anyone watch a 3.5 hour program that isn't a movie itself?

RE: The Oscars and Chris Rock
I usually DVR it, and watch about 20-30 minutes worth zipping through: the opening jokes, in-between bits, and about 3 or 4 of the main award categories.

If there are any movies nominated that I loved, I might watch more.

I prefer the Golden Globes anyhow. More casual, less stiff/pretentious. And Ricky Gervais rocks.

Fair enough, I just tend to take him for what he is, a comedian and don't take anything he says seriously.

but they really are in scope.....and as more view, it becomes a movement....

I'll even give bill cosby credit with his message and how he delivered such....with the exception of the roofies....

black comedians almost all suck today.....dave chappelle is the only one I can give props to......and pryor/foxx were my faves as a tyke....

as always in the arena....isl my op-ed

disclaimer: now this guy was a trip...
