lol, yeah, I just saw a blurb on the morning news that Leo finally won. As far as Chris Rock, most of the reviews I've seen have been positive.

Could care less about ANOTHER awards show where actors or singers give themselves more awards (Yes I know, the Oscars are the longest tenured awards).

Can't remember the last time I even watched a part of this.......just not part of my interests.

I agree there are way to many awards shows. Seems like there is a music awards show every other month, etc.

Too bad "whitey" doesn't see it that way. Doesn't matter now, deserving or not you can bet an African-Anerican [sic] will be winning an Oscar in one of the major categories for at least the next five years and even that won't be enough.

Then wait your behind til' the BET or Image Awards. For reasons, partially, that you mention, I've never liked the Oscars/Academy Awards and Grammy's because they are supposed to somehow give you the impression that the winner was the best and it is decided between a group of people not much different than you and your coworkers or schoolmates. They're just people with preferences and even biases. Add in that legit actors and films didn't get just due because they lacked crossover appeal and of course AA's will be underrepresented. But like I said, it's not a matter of life and death if they get selected, just bragging rights (pay to a lesser extent but Will Smith still gets a hefty paycheck despite not winning all the time).

Bwahahaha.... A bunch of entertainers who can't even practice what they 'demagogue' on (since that's the in-word right now), and we're supposed to care?

And for what it's worth, most times I like Chris' comedic performances... but I didn't and I don't watch a bunch of entertainers try to preach to me, because they were liked by the people in their field.

It's ironic that the liberal bastion that is Hollywood is being called out as being racist.

He's still funny. I watched 3 of his shows on the flight to Australia.

Apparently there is also an uproar over the use of Asian kids to promote stereotypes about math and child labor. I never watch these shows.

You missed the point of his monologue. He was laughing at people like you too.

There is very little systemic "racism." If you have ever been in hiring/firing decisions in big companies you know that. But there is the tendency for people to hire (or vote for) people like themselves. Black people in management positions do the same thing. There just aren't as many of them.

RE: The Oscars and Chris Rock
I was disappointed. Rock was still pretty funny...and the Jack Black segment was clever. But the Stacy Dash thing would have been funny if anyone in the audience watched Fox News or if Stacy Dash was even remotely a celebrity. But it went over like a lead balloon.

I guess I was expecting a little more of a nuanced performance. Seemed like he went for all the old standard racism jokes. He's usually a lot more thought provoking in his humor and social commentary.

And I too thought the joke with the Asian kids as the accountants was in pretty poor taste.

But yeah...the finish to the Lady Gaga song was chilling and brought tears to my eyes seeing those brave victims take a stand in front of millions.

The Lightening defeated the Bruins 4-1. Then The Ducks got by the Kings 4-2.

Now they did a video segment (which was funny), and then more stuff about racism (which wasn't funny).

This is shaping up to be the most controversial Oscars since the early 1970's (when Jane Fonda, Marlon Brando and others said whatever they wanted to).

We all thought it was hilarious and that it was one of the best opening monologues the Oscar's had.

Agreed. Chris Rock pulled no punches and, on the spectrum of Oscar monologues (which typically put the "mono" in "monotonous"), it was excellent. Not all of the jokes hit well throughout the night (i.e. Stacey Dash and the Asian kids as PwC accountants), but the monologue was about as good as you can get in Oscar terms (which we admittedly have to grade on a curve since Oscar monologues are typically terrible).

I watched it this morning. I didn't think much of it. It was funny at times.

Mostly, I just think Chris Rock has lost his touch.

Come to think of it, Chris Rock should have introduced Charlize Theron as the only African-American actress in the building.
