Roy Williams left Kansas for NC. Their next coach won't come from UAB.

It all depends upon the direction Williams points them in when he decides to hang it up. To say the next coach won't come from UAB while improbable is not an absolute. The last coaching search has absolutely nothing to do with the next.

Yeah, and nobody thought Joe B.Hall's successor would come from UAB until Coach Bartow took the job and then backed out

Haase is not Gene Bartow.

RE: Jeff Goodman on Jarod Haase
It is very easy to make an argument that Auburn is a better basketball job.

Recruits dont care about the past.

Recruits want to be on TV.
Every auburn game is either on tv or available to watch via ESPN3.
We get to scramble every road game to see what spam filled Russian website is pirating our video feed this week.

Recruits want nice facilities.
Auburn has top of the line, brand spanking new facilities.
We play in a 28 year old arena where the most notable feature is currently the long lines for crappy concessions.

Recruits want to play against top competition to prepare them for the next level.
Auburn gets to say they play in the SEC and that Kentucky will be coming to play at their gym every year.
We get to play against UTSA, NT, F_U, and Rice!

Recruits want to play in a great atmosphere.
Auburn is averaging 8500 people in a 9100 seat arena. Their lowest attended home game this year had more fans than our highest attended game.(7556)

As for coaches, they want to be somewhere they can recruit to, and that is covered above.

They also want to get paid, they want their assistants to get paid, and they want large staffs to spread the work load.
Auburn's coach is making more than twice what our coach is making. His assistants are undoubtedly making a lot more than ours are making.

Nope, but Gene Bartow wasn't Gene Bartow when UCLA came calling. Took a mid major to Final Four, one unimpressive year at Illinois. If you've got 3-4 23 win seasons and a Sweet 16 or two you can be a player anywhere. look at recent top hires

UConn, Kevin Ollie-internal hire, no head coaching experience

UCLA- Going back to Jim Harrick, Steve Lavin, Ben Howland

Texas, Shaka Smart-is VCU that far above us on the food chain?

UK-Caliperi was at Memphis, Mass, short failed stint in pros. Billy Gillespie, Tubby 2 years at UGA after making his bones at Tulsa

Villanova-Wright was at Hofstra (former Rollie Massimino assistant. his predecessor Lappas was at Manhattan

Indiana-Tom Crean was at Marquette-one Final Four, but other than that...

Why don't you just go ahead and send your post to Auburn so they can put it in their coach/player recruiting material.

Recruits also want a coach that will be around for all of their playing days as well as they don't want to be on probation during their playing days.

No one within the Memphis athletic department said that, just a talking head, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

They already have this stuff in their standard pitch. The instate guys we are recruiting go to Auburn games, they go to Alabama games, they come to our games. They aren't stupid, and if they are, the coaching staffs at our SEC brethren gladly walk them through it. We have several distinct disadvantages in recruiting. Our facilities, our conference, our TV package and our perceived lack of fan support are all real liabilities wether you want to acknowledge them or not. Pointing those out doesn't make me disloyal.

Exactly, and that is why this year is so key. If we end up 28-6 and playing in the NIT, then the writing is on the wall for us being able to keep and attract a good coach.
In the end, Anderson left because he felt he couldn't recruit to UAB, and he placed a lot of that blame on the administration and fans of UAB. Once he realized that we would not be coming close to selling out games no matter how many games he won, and that the administration was not going to do the things that needed to be done facilities wise, he was gone as soon as a decent job opened up.

If CJH decides that the fans are not going to come no matter how many games he wins, and that his ability to go dancing is going to be decided by a conference tourney crap shoot no matter how many games he wins, then he is going to take the first decent job opportunity that presents itself.

All that on top of having to threaten to sue the BOT to get his bonus...

+1

The only advantage to me is Birmingham, and playing a weak schedule in a even weaker conference. We should flat out dominate this 21st ranked dumpster fire.

No doubt, C-USA of 10 years ago was a much better comparison to SEC hoops quality. We have to get football back and keep winning in basketball. The conference affiliation will take care of itself if we get our house in order.
