Gee, thanks! An immediate assumption NC State sucks.
Pulling for you guys and all the CAA through the end of December. A good conference RPI helps all of us. We know you guys are going to be good. I also expect Hofstra, Northeastern, JMU and Delaware to be good as well.

CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
It was their first win over NC State since 1952, and an emphatic one at that. I'd say it's mostly the Tribe picking up from last year and being very legit, though the Wolfpack clearly have issues too. Let's hope they resolve them so this win looks all the better later in the season.
It was definitely surprising that State couldn't win a lot of battles in the post. We know W&M can score and create turnovers but they didn't take advantage inside. Credit the Tribe D and the coaching big time there.
We're only 1 game in, but the CAA is the 3rd-ranked conference in the RPI. :)

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
I went to the game and State looked awful. William and Mary played well, but State's offense was stagnant. It was obvious that Abu was the best player on the floor, but W&M went to a 3-2 zone late in the first half and Abu disappeared. There were some good individual plays by State, but everything they got was from 1-1 basketball.
W&M played well. They mixed defenses, forced turnovers, and battled on the boards. Their offense was surprisingly efficient as they were able to get open looks off of a single screen. They also beat their man back-door several times, but most surprisingly to me, their guards beat their man off the dribble several times.
Undoubtedly, I was pulling for W&M, but I was surprised how bad State's offense looked.

Well, for the past few years the CAA hasn't been a good conference. When you're not good... You start with road games. Nature of the business.

Or when youre poor and need the money. There is a reason our buy games are against non d1 opponents we can't afford to bring in d1 opponents for a 1 and done

In terms of criteria and the NCAA selection committee, road wins are worth a lot anyway. Mid major conferences never get the big wins at home. Rarely does a P5 conference go on the road to any CAA school. JMU got a game at home with UVA last season, but it doesn't happen often. It is a rare change of pace to be able to pull for all the conference schools for 2 months before we begin selectively rooting to help our individual school in January. The Tribe has 3 remaining chances to significantly help the conference, at Dayton, at UVA(not hopeful there), and home against ODU.

Does NU get anything from the deal with Michigan State, or is that just a regular home and home?
And it looks like Hofstra gets Kentucky on Long Island next year.

No idea. The best deal we ever worked out with a P5 conference opponent recently was our wake forest deal where 2 road games in winston got us a neutral site game in greensboro and a home game in Wilmington

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
Another big night for the CAA:
JMU is looking to follow up on their nice win @ Richmond with perhaps another strong non-conference victory tonight. They'll be taking on West Virginia in the state capital (Charleston, WV) at 7.
Elon, who won @ Charlotte on Friday, will be facing Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Meanwhile, Charleston is @ Navy and Towson hosts Morgan St.

The next few weeks will determine whether the CAA will have a shot at multiple NCAA bids. Good start so far. A UNCW win tonight builds on the nice wins over the weekend. Also, it looks like we could have a crowd at the top of the CAA once again.

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
JMU fell to WVU by7 in Morgantown in a close game and Elon lost by 20 at Michigan. No big wins tonight but Coc went on the road and beat Navy while Towson avoided a ad loss at home and beat Morgan st.
Tribe visits liberty tomorrow

As a typical 1-bid league, having a strong start (10-4 against D-I foes) certainly can't hurt.
Definitely not!
We need to continue avoiding home losses, pick up solid road wins (like JMU @ Richmond), and pull an upset or 2 (like the Tribe at State)
Did you guys see Georgetown lost to Radford in Double OT in their Home Opener?? They may be ripe for another upset next month!
