True, but Home Depot and the Idaho Potato Growers Association do not toss in political personal agendas into the marketing and distribution of their products.

They do what they think sells, as does ESPN, FOX, and every other publicly-traded company.

Who the hell cares who they honored during their phony awards show?

I agree. I obviously missed this post when it was first made. Beyond your points, I'm not even sure how the award to Jenner is "political". Transgender rights leans more liberal, and yet Jenner is a lifelong Republican considering a US Senate run. So...political for who exactly?

Political correctness and politics run amuck at ESPN. ESPN, a cable tv station that attempted to destroy my school and many others by deeming us mid-major and deciding those who they did business with were major. (P5, B©S etc. I watched as Rutgers was deemed a major school while ECU was deemed less than. I'm still watching it. If ESPN ever reverses course and stops doing that crap I'll let off of them. Just show the games espn.

Still not sure what any of this has to do with politics.

There are plenty of reasons to hate ESPN. I'm not a fan of their sports coverage either. I used to watch a ton ESPN back in the 1990s. That slowly faded, and I'm not really sure I can say I've watched much of significance from them in the past 10-12 years. I did still like some of their writers, but even that's kind of dried up over time as well. It's not that there's nothing of value from them, but considering how big of a sports fan I am, I get so little of value from them. That's certainly disappointing.

Still, some of the reasons to attack them seem misguided. Has East Carolina lost out in the conference shuffle? Yes. Is ESPN to blame? Generally not. You mention Rutgers, but that was a Big 10 decision driven by its own network. It's not that ESPN hasn't influenced some of these realignment decisions (particularly with the ACC), but they're doing what they think will make money. In the same way when baseball season rolls around you get tons of Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs stuff over other teams. I'm not a fan of a bunch of it, but I know why ESPN does it. And it's not some secret agenda to screw certain schools (if ESPN really had that much power, why is UConn sitting out in the cold when ESPN and Connecticut - the state, not the school - go hand in hand?)

Your last point about UCONN and ESPN is a non-starter. It has nothing to do with this. ESPN plays politics, but I'm sure you can list several examples that prove they don't. I say they do. ESPN is not just a journalistic entity that shows the (sports) news. They have a big hand in MAKING the news. Deny all you want, the proof is there.

You are right - they are beating the blackball/race drum on a daily basis. I actually don't hear many talking heads - not affiliated with ESPN - talk about it at all unless there is a newsworthy "event" occurring because of it.

They seem to have an agenda with this - just like with deflategate. Reporting news and making news are two different things.

I still watch ESPN (too much) but I tend to stick with the sporting events, not SportsCenter or all of these stupid "Hot Take" programs - Stephen A is possibly the biggest hypocritical windbag on any broadcast medium today. I don't even like any of the ESPN Radio personalities outside of Mike and Mike (in small doses) either.

Lol, ESPN's Twitter feed on our page on their site still follows Brohm and shares all of his Purdue-centric tweets.

Ok how about ESPN helped START the latest round of realignment in 2010 by promoting A&M to SEC in not-so-subtle ways for a year leading up?

That said, I generally agree with your entire post. Very little value, little substance. Purely a PR machine for P5 and big market pro teams (As a Pacers/Colts/G5 fan I get nothing out of this entertainment PR firm)

I think it was TNT that had a similar issue in 2008ish? Maybe it was NBC. A sportscaster with a large vocabulary unfortunately chose a word that, while apt, sounded very racist when spoken, whereas were it written maybe it would have made sense --but nobody uses that word ever, it's a $20 dictionary word that sounds way too close to something else.

I have not heard about espn firing anyone today. I won't judge until I hear the details but if it's anything like ^ that story....I suppose they have to be fired.
