In my state it's controlled by the state with some form of local control but it is ebbing.. The state controls the purse strings to a certain degree. They give a basic level of funding. It's currently around 5,400 per kid. My school however is funded primarily through local funds. I believe it's over 90% local funding as the state is cutting our local state share by 27% in the next two years. I'm sure all states are different for a number of reasons. I think the southern states have executed an end around of Brown vs. Board of Education by privatizing everything but that's another topic. Who knows? I'm telling you in MY STATE, the State of Ohio, the State controls public education and we have a Republican governor, A Republican House, and a Republican Senate. Now can anyone explain to me how the state of education is the fault of Liberals ?????????????????????

Yes.

Because education is the great equalizer and anyone in the business of educating children therefore must be a liberal.

Only through education can minorities achieve equal status and that is something that republicans do not want. The will fight tooth and nail to keep minorities down which is why they are enemies of institutions of higher learning.

Ah yes, another emotional diatribe based on your skewed perception backed by no facts whatsoever.

Like most liberal talking heads, you have no substance.

Don't you know its the job of the federal government to raise and educate your children? They do such a good job at it, too.

If parents knew how to do the job, liberals wouldn't have to ask the government to do it.

So you're an advocate for personal responsibility then, right?

An advocate for the advancement of the nuclear family?

But don't just take my word for it.

One way in which Americans have always been exceptional has been in our support for education. First we took the lead in universal primary education; then the “high school movement” made us the first nation to embrace widespread secondary education. And after World War II, public support, including the G.I. Bill and a huge expansion of public universities, helped large numbers of Americans to get college degrees.

But now one of our two major political parties has taken a hard right turn against education, or at least against education that working Americans can afford. Remarkably, this new hostility to education is shared by the social conservative and economic conservative wings of the Republican coalition, now embodied in the persons of Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.

First, this article is written by a certifiable horse's ass.

Second, do you notice that the article only references ONE actual quote by a Republican?

This is the quote: “Don’t just go to one that has the highest price. Go to one that has a little lower price where you can get a good education. And, hopefully, you’ll find that. And don’t expect the government to forgive the debt that you take on.”

This statement is 100% good advice.

This, like most of your posts, is a slandering diatribe and misrepresentation based on NOTHING. False accusations based on NO FACTS.

It's virtually just a bitching session about the price of college, which are mostly set by STATE GOVERNMENTS.

If you think education funding is the problem, then please reference these, supported by actual facts instead of emotional opinion:

No, one party has taken the position that we should make the blue line in graphs 1, 2, and 5 below, or the orange line in graphs 3 and 4, go up even more, while the other is taking the position that we should instead focus on making the red and green lines in graphs 1, 2, and 4, and all the lines in graph 6, go up instead of being flat.

We need better education. It probably also needs to be LESS expensive education. You get that if you focus on improving outputs instead of increasing inputs.

RE: Who Actually Controls Education?
The more of these threads I read, the more I wonder why somebody would ever go into education. Considering the salaries I can't think of a bigger waste of college tuition.
