Compare a view from 1 April with one taken 2 August.
Not the same side of the stadium, but the brick is on, and they have painted the inside of the wall that lovely blue (instead of grey). I do like that blue.

Yet to be done:
Replace the R-Room scoreboard.
Rehang the north end field-level scoreboard.
Finish the renovation of the lower-east restrooms.
Pebble-finish epoxy coating on the concourse.
Rebuild The MOB's conducting stand at the bottom of section 116 (that's my task).

I am almost inclined to think that blue with the capstone looks even better than the brick!

Thanks for the pictures.

I'm almost wanting hedges, but then, the fake turf (and the recent team performances) makes this more apropos...

Thanks for them pictures, Grungy.

I'm sorry, but I frankly can't spot the difference(s). Can someone point them out?

It's all about the wall. It looks like brick from the front, and it's painted blue on the back. There's a nice capstone on top.

This is a sleazy screen capture, but it makes the point.
In April, the wall around the field was grey paint on the inside and the outside.

[Image: screen-shot-2022-08-04-at-12.55.09-am.png]

Now the wall around the field is brick on the inside, and blue on the side toward the seats.

OwlFest is slated for 20 August.

Owl Fest 2022, the free annual fan fest for Rice fall sports, is slated for Saturday, August 20th at 6:30 p.m. on the west concourse of Rice Stadium. The Owls will host an open scrimmage for the football team and conduct autographs from members of the football, cross country, soccer, and volleyball teams. The event will give members of the Rice Family their first chance to celebrate the start of the upcoming athletic season and meet and greet their favorite players and teams!

Admission to Owl Fest is free as is parking in the Greenbriar Lot on the west side of the stadium. Gates open shortly after 6:00 p.m. for those who wish to arrive early prior to the football scrimmage. Throughout the event the Rice Ticketing staff will be available at the Fan Services Table to help fans lock in their seats for the action this upcoming year.

Fans who plan to attend are encouraged to RSVP to the event by clicking here if fans have not already have done so.

Owl Fest will be the first official event where fans can experience first hand the first phase of stadium renovations that is part of this season's "For The Owls" campaign to salute the Owls' loyal fan base as Rice approaches full membership in the American Athletic Conference. The fan-facing improvements to Rice Stadium have reshaped the field level chair back seating areas, address fan feedback regarding the concourses, and make several notable changes to the visual presentation inside the stadium as well.

Other activities include the Shop Rice Owls team apparel shop and the Owls Kidz Zone, which will feature a ball toss inflatable, sidewalk chalk, and a photo booth. Members of Rice's spirit groups will also be on hand to heighten the Rice spirit. DJ Chaney will be live on the stadium loudspeakers with upbeat music being shared for further entertainment!

Food trucks from Oh My Gogi and Stuff'd will be on hand, along with other vendors like Body Armor, Howdy Homeade Ice Cream, and Kona Ice. There will be free sampling of food and beverages as well from Rudy's, Karbach Brewing, and Yeungling. Fans will also be able to pick up autograph cards, team posters, and have a chance to participate in enter-to-win giveaways along the concourse. The CoolBreeze zone will be activated underneath the "R" Room for fans to be able to stay cool during the event.

In addition to Owl Fest beginning at 6:30 p.m., Rice Athletics is co-hosting a Student Social Welcome Back Day from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m that will feature the NCAA Final Four Fan Jam, an inflatable obstacle course, backyard tailgate games, and have plenty of free food, swag, and more,

Agree. We all want the same thing, but it would probably cost a couple million to tear up all that concrete and plant grass. Maybe a tarp of artificial grass would do the trick for now? I'm curious to see what they do.

It looks like they still need to powerwash the upper west side. The place looks great though with just the minor improvements they've made. Clean. Brighter.

I agree with your assessment... though the picture of the west side is old... and was being shown to demonstrate the difference between the grey wall and the new blue wall with brick surrounding the field.

They did similar +/- 10 years ago and the place looked great then also... It's the 'other' things that will make the difference... for the fans anyway.

NOW we just have to play good football.

Also, I would put sand and field turf on the south end. You can always sell GA tickets if we ever get that popular again and the hill would be a great place for families... and a great place to 'slide' during rain delays.

Yeah Id place field turf down as well, but I bet they'd still have to remove the concrete to make that happen. I don't know. Expensive. They aren't taking very good care of the grass in the north endzone. Looks dead. That shouldn't be allowed. Fertilize and water it for God's sake.

But if we grass over the south end zone too, how can a missed FG bounce over the wall into the front row?

Lol. We used to stand up there and catch those balls when the kickers warmed up.

But that takes money. And spending money to maintain facilities is not the Rice Way.

We don't want more of those....

and if they grass it, you could still be there.... In fact, you could slide down the hill on a wet day and catch the ball
