A daydream...
Imagine that Rice contracts with Buc-ee's for restroom design and concessions, with the addition of another party more experienced with "beverage" sales.
The novelty alone would pull people to a game who might not otherwise attend.
If the product is good, they might very well return.
(That's both on and off the field.)

+1!
Of course, you would have to deal with this.

So may good ideas from the Parliamentarians. Too bad no one in charge ever seems to be listening or, more likely, doesn't know what to do with a good idea.

RE: HRS / EZF Athletics Construction Thread
HRS is looking pretty good.
The brickwork is nearly complete.
They're adding stainless steel liners to the scuppers, and nearly all of the cap on the wall is installed and caulked (between the segments).
The head of the brick-laying crew says "Come back after we've washed the brick - it will be even better."
There are two areas that still need to be pressure-washed - one is in the upper west, below the TV camera stands, and the other is between the R-Room and the tunnel, where one of the tarps used to be.
They were actively blasting away with the trailer-mounted pressure-washing system yesterday.
The east side restrooms have been gutted, and they are installing the new drain plumbing.
I'm guessing here, but I think they will look very similar to the lower west restrooms when complete."
Replacement of the CFL lighting fixtures with LEDs is about half complete.
They've started working north on the east side, from the R-Room end.
As the second level is basically unused, they are not replacing the light fixtures up there. Can't blame them - they are really high up, and would require a cherry-picker instead of a scissor-lift.
Tickets are no longer sold for the upper east.
I wonder if that one family with season tickets in the only installed chair-back seating on the upper east still gets to sit up there?
There's fresh paint on what looks to be all of the remaining painted surfaces at field level. (And I really like the shade of blue that was chosen.)
In August, the scoreboard on top of the R-Room will be replaced with a Daktronics display. Still don't know if it will be all-new, or if they will make use of the existing framework and repopulate it with new stuff. It has survived every storm since it was built, over 50 years ago.
Sidebar: I was taking a cooling break (107 in the shade) while removing The MOB's conducting platform (not in the shade) from Section 114 (we're being moved to 116).
I saw a young mom walking in at Gate 4 with a child's backpack, and a toddler in tow. She looked lost. I asked what she was looking for. She said "Grounds - they're sponsoring a STEM camp for middle-schoolers." Her son had forgotten his backpack. I offered to guide her to wherever they were. We knew it was somewhere near the stadium.
Grounds is currently housed in the old football offices, above the old locker rooms, but there's no room for a camp in there.
I figured the practice dome or the R-Room. While we walked up the steps to the R-Room, the Grounds rep she hadn't gotten a response from appeared, walking down to find her. Mission accomplished. I asked him why they weren't in the dome. He said that it's too hot in the dome - the AC can't keep up. Uh-huh...

Yes, there are other pumps.
Sump pump 10 is 1.5 floors below “first” floor Sewall Hall.

I'm convinced most parliamentarians believe they could change the course of Rice athletics by sternly telling the coaches to win. Can we just focus on the stadium renovations in the stadium renovation thread?

Parliament comes from parla. meaning partial, and mento meaning mind. One can hardly expect partial minds to focus.

Thank you. Not every thread has to devolve into a discussion about Rice's lack of support for, and blase' attitude toward athletics.

My error - the current south end scoreboard is much newer, using my own photos of one predecessor as evidence.
Have yet to find info about when that predecessor was installed.
It had the original animated panel across much of the top, that used incandescent light bulbs, in 1990.
The current one appears to have been installed in 1996, according to a variety of sources.
The Jess Neely & Joe Baker Scoreboard was installed on the north end in 2006, and then removed to be replaced by the Patterson EZF and the current scoreboard.

No, I was just screwing up, and not checking my facts before posting.
Thanks for the correction.
I knew it was Bloody Joe, but they didn't print that on the bottom of the scoreboard.

Hopefully they'll paint all of that in future stages. Do something nice with the columns. Put down that flake floor like they're doing downstairs. The kids need a very cool area to keep them occupied. Build something for them. Upper east would be perfect for it.
