I think EagleKing confirmed this year that Epps is still committed.

Last I heard was that he was, that was during the winter. I'll look into it

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
No confirmation on if Epps is still committed or not. However if it appears that he is "tearin it up" on his AAU team, thus I would urge us to be cautious on how much merit we put in that. Most AAU teams just run and gun and play very weak defense. This allows players who can't hit a 15 footer and stay in front on anyone on D to put up 15/8 numbers. This is what is wrong with the AAU revolution. Kids do not learn and practice the fundamentals, get told they are the next best thing, get to a D1 school, and most do not live up the the expectations.

But moving past Steve's high school clique mentality I'll repeat what I've said along. There's plenty of division I caliber men's basketball and football within 150 miles of Ypsi. Within the last 10 years high mid majors and out of state mid majors not to mention programs like CMU, Oakland Toledo, WMU UD and NIU have been more successful than EMU. And sticking to the MAC CMU and WMU have been able to win conference championships and go to the NCAAs with key players from Michigan high schools. And many of those as we've seen that have gone out of state have transferred back in state.

EMU both in football and men's basketball has failed to attract instate talent. I view that as a concern and some don't. In general I think most programs want to dominate their home recruiting and then go outside.

Well put. We are a regional university. We need to recruit regionally.

Thanks the 150 area around Ypsi would include Toledo OH and Fort Wayne IN as well. The WBB mined Toledo very well for a few years for talent.

Oh, my.

He calls me 'arrogant' (or maybe have 'arrogant tendencies') and I call him a 'whiner.'

Maybe he should read the quotes from Trump, Cruz, Boehner, Clinton, Sanders...

Calling someone a 'whiner' is Sunday school stuff... Like getting hit with a wet noodle.

If you want to get that level then both of us shouldn't probably be here.

Dwight Burton and Kelvon Fuller both played in a AAU tournament this past weekend. I believe both are unsigned. Not sure whether Marlo Brown has committed anywhere. Richard Talley out of Detroit Ren worked out for EMU but not sure whether he is a Div II scholie player or a Div I walk on. JUCOs had another major showcase this past weekend probably the last for the 2016 recruiting class.

I saw that. A one-year backup to Ty Toney?

Moving down from Big East to MAC would be a help for him.

EDIT: I don't think he is a graduate-eligible transfer. Didn't he play just one season at Creighton???

BTW, isn't this fun!!! Far cry from the days when Hoopster would e-mail Steve Bell and ask: "We need a backup PG, who are the top available for this year and how about two years from now when we'll need another?"

Now recruiting is more like being a NFL general manager getting talent from any and all sources.

Players transferring out, h.s. players sign and college and JUCO transfers in. Sometimes need a one-year 'rental'... Player pool being constantly restocked. Redshirts and medical redshirts, players going to prep school for seasoning. Players transferring from D-I to JUCO to be re-recruited after 'seasoning' at JUCOs.

Grad eligible transfers remind me of the players in baseball who are acquired in July for that season before becoming a FA.

It wasn't this complex 25 years ago.

Technically Wednesday, but yes, the end is near, but that doesn't mean much as 1). when a LOI is signed the school IS committed to the player even after Wednesday, but 2). when the LOI is signed AFTER the end of the 2nd signing period the PLAYER may opt out.

There is a lot of activity in the D-I recruiting circles esp. transfers as many transfers haven't been 'on the market' long.

They need to arrange visits (plural) and then make their decision.

Legitimate Big Ten talent.

Type of player who, if things had worked out a little different (e.g., injuries), might have had a very good B1G career.

Ugh. Byron Hawkins to Murray State. Would've been a perfect transfer for 16-17.

Agree!!! Ouch that hurts!!!

The starting job could have been handed to him after Toney graduates...

And I'd really like to see us get more players from the talent rich Washington, D.C. area. It's called opening doors...

Hm, after his best recruiting class last year has Murphy and staff lost their magic this year? The failure to land Lindsay and now Hawkins does really hurt. I thought Murphy and crew would recruit guys to replace Lee, Toney and Mangum. We have one LOI and lost guys like Alvano, Perry, and others who had experience playing the 2-3 zone and now what do we have?

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
This one hurt, but I'm still not that worried. We have 6 of our 7 rotation players returning, as well as two impact transfers to bolster the front court. I'm concerned about our back court for 16-17 since, well, we don't have anyone. But there are still like 500 transfers out there and some good JUCOs. I expect Murphy to go both routes, much to our chagrin.

But at least we have a deep, young front court. That's far less common.
