You figure out a way for someone like that to stay 2-3-4 years at ODU -- or anywhere -- and you let us know. You get a guy like that and even if he stays one year, other similar recruits may well start to look at you differently.

Unless the guy is the next coming of LeBron or Michael Jordan, I don't want a one and done. Why go through the effort of recruiting a kid only to have to replace him the very next year. Seems like a waste of time and effort. Just my uneducated opinion.

MAC you missed the point...Right here it is asked in bold. My response was, "You should ask Coach Cal that question". Has nothing to do with cheating. Just the FACT that Kentucky pulls in more ONE and DONES than anyone, and guess what? they have now played in 2 of the last 4 National Championship games. Think it has something to do with the level of player thats there? PROBABLY SO. I couldnt care less how the player got there because like I said COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.

WHAT IM STATING IS, IF YOU HAVE ELITE SKILLED PLAYERS THAT ARE TYPICALLY ONE AND DONE, YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF WINNING A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Why is that like pulling teeth for you to acknowledge?

I'll take all the one-and-dones. They're great players. They'll help us win significantly more than a bunch of 5th year Seniors who MIGHT get the chance to play in Europe.

Note to self: remove lofty recruiting promises from campaign platform.

This isn't even a discussion.

You take the best talent you can find period.

If he's that good that he gets drafted as a freshman from odu, you thank him for coming here and hope he makes a fortune in the NBA so he can give back to odu.

No debate at all.

RE: 2016 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
To lend some perspective, I think some overlooked R8R's comment that he might "possibly" be a one and done and are carving it in stone. Not all 5 star recruits went to the pros after their freshman year this past season. In truth, many did. But to use an example close to home, McAdoo was 5 star and stayed a couple of years at UNC.

All this might be moot, but I don't understand why we would accept a home visit knowing we had no shot at getting this guy. What good would it do us? We're not going to brag to other recruits that "we got a home visit with so and so" and argue that they should look more closely at us. No, you either get the guy or you don't. And what's the kid get out of it? Nothing. I would hope we're not taking "charity" home visits from anyone we're recruiting.

all it did was bring up the debate on whether we want a one-and-done type player. I long ago forgot the name of the guy we're even talking about!

Whether we sell it or not, having a 5 star with interest does raise your recruiting profile. A three star who thinks he is better than ODU may wonder what we have going on here and take a closer look when he sees that 4 or 5 star guys are talking to us.

My guess is Jones and company think they have a chance. That's all that matters, not what a group of anonymous message board users think.

I know it has been said before, but we cannot say that JJ and his coaching staff are not pursuing quality recruits. Refreshing to see.

Arizona State, his HS coach is Bob Hurley. Xavier, Oklahoma, Temple and Rutgers off the top of my head. Was hurt and did not play this past weekend at the Peach Jam.

Since our initial interest, months ago, his stock has gone through the roof.

It's a very positive sign that we have been saying this a lot.

Only if you can land them. I want their stock to rise after they sign an LOI. BT used to recruit highly rated guys too, but never landed them, except Dahi, and seemed was left scrambling for leftovers at the end of the cycle and took some risks. Several worked, some didn't. Gotta give JJ credit though, he seems to have an eye for talent and spots it before most. Hopefully that pays off for us.

Sales is a tough job..trust me. Especially if you are selling a "perceived" inferior product and in a lot of ways on the national level .."to what the kids want".we are inferior. What you offer to compensate that is the game of selling and it's not easy... You can't hit the ball out of the park if you don't step up to the plate for a swing.. JJ and crew are doing everything possible I'm sure. The fans need to support them and tailor their wish list expectations a bit.
