Understandable. Nobody wants to make the mistake that was made with vcu.

I think we start getting significant votes if we take care of Georgia State.

I don't think there's a game left that provides ODU a significant vote boost on its own. Georgia State would be one of those wins that look unexpectedly nice if they win the Sun Belt and finish with a 40-50 RPI, but it probably won't register to voters in December.

Any movement will come from ODU holding serve while teams above them fall and teams below them fail to get leapfrogging wins.

What gets me they still continue to place VCU and LSU ahead of ODU. Even in the RPI conducted by ESPN. Realtime RPI is about the only one that has it right.

A win against Georgia State would put us at 9-1 through 10 games. I don't think Georgia State itself would be the big game that does it, but I am assuming we win the MEAC games (if not, we deserve a 5 year ban from the tournament). I think 9-1 through 10 games and we will start getting serious consideration. That has been historically about when teams like Murray State have cracked it.

I don't see getting anywhere near ranked anytime soon myself. Richmond just lost to JMU yesterday and now has a losing record. VCU has been exposed as way over rated. LSU is 6 & 2 last I checked and is a decent but not earth shattering win. I do not see Georgia State getting any votes so why is that gonna move us up much? LSU and VCU, teams we have beaten are both ranked ahead of us. We get very little respect. Only way to change that is to win,win,win. We get to 17 & 3 or something crazy, then we can see if we are close. Like someone posted on here somewhere, the announcer doing the VCU game called their loss to us as a bad loss for them. We have a loooong way to go to get any respect on the national scene, imo.

I think the Jan 4th game at Charlotte will be the difference maker. that is a Sunday game and if we are 12-1 after that game, we will be in the drivers seat. I would hate if that Monday we get ranked and that Thursday we go to Huntington and crap the bed.

Both polls put us around 40-45th

There are about 50 schools with 5 or more wins and 0 or 1 losses, then there's another 5-10 schools with 2 losses but with good wins (Oklahoma, San Diego St, UNC, Providence, Syracuse, Georgetown), plus a few darlings or ranked teams that lost a couple this week that they won't completely drop because they lost to good teams (VCU, Michigan, Arkansas, UConn).

I think we'd match up well against UNI, but they're 8-0 so that looks better, St. Johns has a better resume than us in my opinion. I don't think the polls are doing us too badly for a 6-1 team with two good wins.

In two weeks' time, if we've beaten GA St. and W&M along with UMES and NC A&T then we should be picking up enough votes to keep us around 25-30 I think. That would be a solid OOC resume.

LSU got a road win against a top 20 team on national TV. That carries a lot of weight. Plus it's five points in the AP poll, so it could be they only got on one or two ballots but in the low 20s instead of 25.

I think I can live with vcu at about 38 but Northern Iowa at 23, I just don't know about that.

We are the only team with a 3-0 record vs 1-25 RPI.

Yeah, the GMU game just wasn't going to move the needle. It was big to us because of our history up there, but that's irrelevant to the voters.

Had we won the Paradise Jam before beating VCU, we'd definitely have a very similar resume to UNI and possibly be ranked or very close. The loss to Illinois State probably won't be a "bad" loss and hurt our tournament chances much, but it hurt our chances of getting ranked for awhile.

There is zero chance VCU is losing at home to UNI. ZERO

VCU needs that win badly and it will be an absolute blowout. UNI's Top 25 stay will be ephemeral.
