People who grow up in poorer, rougher neighborhoods - oftentimes with absent parents - are more likely to commit violent crimes. And the percentage of black people who fit this profile is higher than for other ethnic demographics.

It might be un-PC to say, but it's fact.

It's not that I disagree that there are some racist white cops out there that fan the flames of the problem. But you can't force-fit arrest percentages to perfectly match demographic percentages. You can only react to what is reality.

Uhmm... no Arrests should be related to the criminal activity. Nothing more, nothing less.

If i have a room of 8 men and 2 women and the two women commit a crime and 2 men do, should my arrest rate be one man and one woman? Cause that's an 80/20 population with an arrest rate of 50/50. So by your argument, that wrong.. I should arrest all 8 men to insure an 8/2 ratio?

Of if i Only arrest 1 woman, then i must arrest 4 men, even though only 2 men were guilty?

This is the type of reasoning someone who believes in equal outcome instead of equal opportunity uses.

What happens when the arrest rate is already at or slighty above 60% and crime is still be committed? Are those people just given a pass because of their race?

No. What a silly, stupid idea. Arrests should be proportional to crimes committed.

Not when a goal of society is equality of outcomes.

Once again, I'm not saying the stops should be exactly the same. However, a 20 -30 percent difference is significant.

Fit, then you better retract this statement: "Arrests should be similar to population.".

I meant stops. Arrests in Ferguson are actually closer to 95 percent.

Actually, I'm opposed to police performing ANY stops without probable cause. (Lane Weaving, failure to signal, speeding, etc.). But then again, I'm opposed to DUI checkpoints that Missouri and St. Louis County implement.

Ironically though (and I don't know how they come up with this number or what it means), Ferguson had one of the lowest "stop rates" in any Missouri police district for black or whites. (They said the black stop rate was 1.35 (State average was 1.8) and white stop rate was .37 (State average was .65 or so.). I have no clue what those numbers actually mean in terms of stops and what it's in relation to.

You're absolutely right.. Affirmative Action should step in and say, hey you need to arrest more of this ethnicity to make things even.. I know there's no people of this ethnicity on the police, but go into the community and hire a few..

Do you even think before you speak or do you wander around mumbling like a 90 year old man all the time?

If there is something wrong with the math, take it up with the police department, it's their data.

**Takes a deep breath**

If 67% of the population (that's 2/3) is say black and the other third is made up of white and other ethnicities, and for 80% of the crime the offenders seem to be the ethnicity that is the majority, don't that make better sense than the 37%.. Did I use too big of words for you? Were the numbers too big for you?

You want the numbers to skew the way you think is correct, maybe get your a$$ in uniform and make the world a better place.

I don't think the issue is race, though. The issue is should some of these people carrying guns be allowed to even carry a gun, much less be in law enforcement.

In El Paso, we just recently had a police officer shoot and kill a man who was in handcuffs at the El Paso county jail. Surprisingly, the officer was never indicted.
