It certainly hasn't been all bad with The Score. Terry Boers is an NIU alum and has been supportive of the Huskies. Same with Barry Rozner.
And, of course we can't forget Laurence Holmes, who's been a big backer of NIU football.

90% bad with the Score. Boers will only back the Huskies as long as it means he doesn't have to verbally or publicly back the Huskies. Rozner is probably the most supportive but he isn't full time unfortunately. Laurence Holmes is ok, but he is a leaf in the wind, if he was teamed up with any of the score personalities who piled on the Huskies, he would pretty much accept that. To be honest though, its not really the constant mockery of NIU by most of the score personalities that hurt NIU on that station, the MAC schedule is what doomed us.

Lol let's just be honest, Bernstein hammers NIU all the time. I love B&B but they suck when it comes to supporting NIU, they only give NU love because they are a sponser with tons of commericals on 670

No argument at all about Bernstein. He's a pompous jerk. Last week, he was ripping on Jordan Lynch and doing it over and over again. That was very hard to take.

We have had this discussion many times. B&Bs show is to make fun of everything. NIU got great coverage on the score. They broadcasted from Fattys (thanks to fattys) a few times. They had coaches and players on when relevant. It helped advance NIU football. Illinois saw this and probably out bid us for radio time. So now we are on AM560 which is still better than no Chicagoland station like before The Score.

Agreed, WIND is ok, all things considered Score but to think it is some sort of improvement from the Score is asinine.

Its a step down but we don't have the purse strings that Illinois has. I am sure they are paying a lot for the time.

Holmes has been great, didn't he broadcast from HS prior to an mid-week game...maybe it was the Ball State game last year.

I believe WIND will be a good fit for NIU. They might not have the 50k power that WSCR and others have but it will be good enough to reach most of the Chicagoland area, parts of Wisconsin and Indiana.
I recently picked up WIND in western Michigan, too. It's area of coverage is not bad at all.
Sorry for the delay in getting on here.
No, WIND does NOT drop their power at night. What happens after dark is that AM signals begin to reflect back to earth. This is why you can hear distant stations at night but not during the day. The downside of this is that you protected area; the area wherein your station can be heard w/o interference, shrinks a bit. And it's not an exact science either. All of those maps that people like to post are estimated coverage areas. You will hear WIND in DeKalb at night but depending on where you are, it can be fuzzy and feature some static.
WIND is licensed for 5,000 watts full time. Being at 560 on the dial is a big help also. The lower the dial position, the better the range.
Go and look at the daytime coverage areas for both 5,000 watt WIND and 50,000 watt WYLL and you'll see what I mean. They are not as different as you would think.
All in all, WIND is an excellent outlet for NIU. Forget those 38 states. Truth is that you would probably hear WSCR in just a handful of them and only in certain locations on certain nights.
I do hope that the audio at least will be streamed for free. While not expensive, it was still bothersome to have to enroll, pay and sign in all of the time just to listen to something that many people get to hear for free in the stations coverage area. I spend a great deal of time well away from the area in the fall and would appreciate being able to listen via tuned in or one of the other services. It seems that once in a while WLBK would forget to disconnect their stream and the game would be available but more often - it would be blacked out on all of the stations.
On Saturdays and evenings, it will probably boom further than during the day.
The only issue is that WIND cuts its power at night. That could impact our night games unless there is some sort of exemption. It could be around 10:00 p.m., but I think it changes according to when the sun sets (i.e., earlier over the winter months). Sportsfan could probably provide information on this.

The signal gets better at night in Yorkville.
The map also shows that the local area is larger at night.

Just hope they start the coverage on time and don't forget there is a game, like WIND did on more than one occasion w/ U of I.
Also as a side note, from a very good source.....Boers can't stand Bernstein. He even works from home a lot and calls in just not to be around him. I hate them both, but it in sense it explains to an extent his constant agreeing with Bernstein, as kissing. He has to, or he will get ridiculed, make it more difficult. Boers is just simple, Bernstein a know it all bully who has to be little people with is vocabulary ever chance he gets, especially when losing an argument. Boers just sits and agrees, no matter the topic.

If you look at both maps, day and night, closely you'll notice that they are slight different in scope and shape. That is because at night WIND must "protect" other stations signals because of that bounce back.
With the same amount of power but a slightly altered antenna, some areas would receive a better signal after dark. The pattern changes at local sunset but a few stations can actually have a post-sunset clause which could allow normal daytime operation for up to an hour or two after dark if the primary station they need to protect is way to the west and still operating on daytime pattern and power. Without looking, I would not think that WIND would qualify. It would make very little difference though.
The map also shows that the local area is larger at night.

Boers basically hates all of humanity. Mother Teresa would've had difficulty liking Bernstein.

They must do something at 6:00 a.m. every morning. The signal cuts out for a second - the same type of break in the signal you get when a station increases its power. Could this be a switch in the signal pattern?
