This.
Nobody wearing a bow tie should count as an attendee at a football game, unless they are selling ice cream. If you are near a football game and wearing a bow tie and not selling ice cream you are there for something else. Sorry if this cuts the Hoos' attendance numbers by 2/3 but facts are facts.

I'd guess many who go to games are just there to socialize. I know we've had sold out games where there's still 10k people tailgating...
Sure, there are a lot of die hard fans, but for many it's just something fun to do. How many would go watch the game if they went alone? I'd assume they'd just catch it on TV.
Anyway you're going to find kids in ties at almost any southern football game. I know many watch and many just go to act drunk and stupid.
It's not a bow tie but I have to throw this in...

I was talking specifically about bow ties; I am from the deep South, I have worn ties to countless college football games, I know how it is. Socializing among and amongst tie-wearers and non-tie-wearers is a part of the game. It's all fun. Bow ties are different. You should never trust anyone who wears a bow tie, unless they are selling ice cream. The bow tie wearers who don't have ice cream to sell are usually from Ole Miss and UVA. They are not to be trusted.

What about your friends from 10 miles away? I've seen a lot of their greeks wearing bow ties when we've played them. Not a lot of the other students though.

Do I even have to answer this? Don't even trust those guys to sell you ice cream, no matter what kind of tie they're wearing. They openly admitted that their entire undergraduate program was a fraud to avoid saying that they cheat to help their basketball and football programs. I wouldn't eat anything they were selling.

How do the WVU Crew look in Bow Ties with Their Coveralls. I'm sure there's some out there.

But the other question is when will VT be exceptional in any program? I know there's always bass fishing, but anything else? ever? Since 1870 something, you have nothing?
I heard that you once had a guy that could fling a hammer, so I guess that counts for something too, so congrats on hammer flinging and fishing.

Pretty sure the Hokies could simply not go around wearing bow ties and be better than infinite national championships in lacrosse and (insert sport that only exists because of Title IX here).

I'll be honest. I've never understood wearing ties or bow ties to a football game. Football jersey all the way for me.

FWIW, I've never been to a game in a tie, nor attended a game with someone else wearing one in over 15 years with season tickets. However, some things are far more egregious than a tie.

RE: 117 Fans rocked the GT spring game
I'd rather be a tool in a tie than some painted doofus. Our fanbase has a fair amount of both. We have to separate ourselves from the nfl only fans . Plus people in academia have a history of wearing bowties as does the south.
Fwiw some of the fraternity members I met from GT, UVA and Duke (rip) were some of the most bow-tie wearing, docker donning, Cole Haan sporting people I've ever seen. Looked like a bunch of easter eggs. UVA much more so than the guys from Vt, Duke and GT were less than Uga and Carolina though.

RE: 117 Fans rocked the GT spring game
Meh, this to me is a nonstory. If schools can get 80K+ fans to a spring game, then more power to them. I find spring games boring as hell. Watched some of ND and a few others on TV. I don't get the point of smack over a damn intrasquad scrimmage. If School A played a D1AA in a scrimmage, in the spring, I'd be more apt to pay attention.

I didn't see any bow ties in the Clemson pictures.
They must not sell ice cream at the stadium.
