We weren't?
SBC teams lost a grand total of one game against a CUSA team this year, and was ranked higher by every single conference power ranking.
Ok, all the media I saw had them ahead of us. Well be in for a rude awakening next year with the 4 teams were bringing on...

You don't think App State and Georgia Southern can compete? I've got them both finishing in the top half of the league next year. GSU's schedules gives them the opportunity to make a major run with the right coach hire.
Sure, NMSU and Idaho are not pretty, but the rest of this league will be very tough.

Redwolves06 is correct . The four teams coming in will NOT make 2014 a happy new year for SBC football.
The future looks pretty good however -maybe VERY good.

I think many here are overlooking how good App State and GSU might be. I think that at least one of them will be able to reach something similar to what UTSA did this year in CUSA. I have both winning at least 6 next year, maybe more depending on how they do later in the season.

Plus, the Cajuns ought to be just as good if not better next year with a senior heavy team.
stAte will be the wild card, to me. New coaching staff could mean more of the same (they've gotten pretty good at changing coaching staffs and keeping at the top), or it could be trouble.
No pressure or anything, ASU, but you guys are the swing vote how the conference will go!

If we can survive our OOC slate, which includes games at Tennessee and Miami, and a home game with a Heisman candidate in Chuckie Keeton, our Conference slate is very manageable. No crazy Troy spread attack, No GSU triple option. Road trips to Idaho and Georgia State look winnable, and we've got both South Alabama and ULM joining App State and NMSU in Jonesboro.
Our key will be how our QB situation. Fredi Knighten will have the most experience, but we'll have a redshirt Freshman named Cameron Birse who turned down Cal and Washington State to come here, who is supposed to be really good.
The other small key will be depth at Receiver. We're losing basically every receiver not named JD McKissic. Now JD McKissic, as most Belt teams now know, is really, really good, but we need one of our redshirted wide receivers to come in and compete immediately.

The very existence of this thread is a testament to the inferiority complex that exist within the schools left behind. I completely understand it as many CUSAers display the same sentiment (aka butt hurt) towards the schools that left to the new AAC.
Only one word comes to mind. Obsession...

Uh, maybe your conference champ played their bowl game today and that was the reason for the thread.
BTW, they sucked long and hard.
I had C-USA at 4-2 for this year's bowls.......Tulane, ECU, Marshall, and UNT winning......MTSU and Rice losing. So far I was pretty accurate.

Here CE and Numbnut61, appears the fans over at the AAC forum are also 'obsessed' with C-USA and suffering from an inferiority complex.

Some really kind words in that thread.

believe me, no one in the SBC has any desire or obsession to be associated with the F_Us That's kind of the point of this thread CUSA is a weaker football conference. The last 5 years of head-to-head competition prove it. One of our incoming members did something your team will never do, beat Florida
you can go back to the CUSA board and puff out your chest and talk about how jealous we all are and how we wish we were as good as you Now THAT is an inferiority complex

RE: Rice Football Team Apology
The only thing I somewhat envy about C-USA is their basketball, and in this part of the country, it really doesn't matter if you suck at hoops anyway. Football is the revenue sport and is engrained into culture around here, so as long as you're doing big things on the football field, folks could care less. With that said, C-USA is an AWFUL football league, and the only reason I'd be interested in joining is because perception is that it's better. Perception usually ends up leading to reality.

Is that why every single SBC member that has EVER been offered a spot in CUSA has readily accepted? Your criticism of CUSA can't be taken seriously when everyone knows that ASU would jump at an invitation from CUSA.

I'll suspend judgement on that until the 2014 season has concluded. I have a pretty good idea how it'll turn out, though.

The perception of CUSA is better because historically, CUSA has BEEN better. It is a fact that programs rise and fall throughout the years. Coaching changes, injuries, all kinds of things play into that fact. I give ASU a lot of credit for holding things together through all the coaching changes you guys have gone through. One bad hire can set your program back a decade, just ask USM, who after a coaching change, went from being conference champions to winless in one year. With that said, I have confidence that USM will right the ship and become a G-5 power again. I just don't know if that will mean anything anymore. For the record, I am for a G-5 playoff every year for a G-5 National Champion. It would include the five G-5 conference champions plus three wildcards in an eight team playoff. It would require seven Bowl games to agree to be a part of it, or we'd have to host the games ourselves. Either way would work for me. Then there would be no reason for anybody to gripe about perception, except for the wildcard selections I guess.

The SBC has still NEVER had a team ranked in the Top 25. Ever. Every other G-5 conference has. That is a huge part of the perception problem that the SBC has. Getting a team ranked is the first step you guys have to make. It begins with scheduling. You can't schedule an Alabama or a Florida State early in the season, get hammered by 60 points, and still be taken seriously by the AP voters or the coaches afterward. The G-5 teams that get ranked play the likes of IL, UVA, and Vanderbilt, all teams that are very beatable. Money games are killers for all G-5 schools. You have to be smart about them.

5 years ago, yes on jumping to CUSA. With the bigger programs leaving for the AAC, the added travel, the Fox Sports 1 ratings, the entry/exit fees, the diminishing tv money, and the mediocrity of the football - CUSA is not as attractive as it used to be
I think ASU would take an invite if it set up a western division but otherwise its really not that appealing
2014 CUSA and 2014 SBC are pretty equal I really hope realignment is over I will be perfectly happy with our rivals and the new teams coming
outside of USM, what powerhouse team are you eager to watch Tech play? I'm not suggesting that you would be any more fired up playing Troy/UL/ULM/ASU but there is also nothing exciting about playing the F_Us/UAB/UNCC/ODU ETC.

I do really look forward to playing USM regularly. I also look forward to playing Rice, UTSA, and UNT every year. I agree with you in that the Tech/ODU and Tech/UNCC match ups are going to take time to develop into games that draw much interest. They were both added for basketball more than anything else, so they should both help us develop our MBB program.

Last nights performance by a G5 champ has set ALL G5 conferences back. Sad indeed. And to be lectured to on how the SB sucks. Nice!

Top 25 will come sooner rather than later. The scheduling body-bag games has dwindled for some of the more competitive teams, but the bills have to be paid. Our teams don't need to buy into perception because the reality is no team in cusa is to be feared, at this point in time. The fact that eludes some is that no team there in 2014 has helped the perception more than usm. If your teams feel that strongly that you're head and shoulders above the SBC, let's get some more h&h series going. Or, could they be concerned that they're not going to live up to said perception. I have no doubt that cusa will be exposed on the gridiron next season.
