RE: 2013-14 Track and Field Thread
We've always had athletes whe were at least threats to score in the LJ and some, like April Williams, who were outstanding. Jumps have really dropped off. Good to see Jillian having a nice senior season.

The women scored one point in 7 Field events at the MAC womens meet.
41 of their 49 points were produced by their distance program.
7 points by the sprinters
UT was the only school not fielding a 4x400 team.
Of the 17 events that took place UT had zero entrants in 4 of them.(22%)
Of the 17 events UT only had 1 entrant in 6 of those.(36%)
Looks like we sent a cross country team to a track meet, based off what I see.
Ongoing common theme.
Congrats to our winner and scorers.

Well, since that's been the emphasis with Coach Hadsell I figured it would be the case this year. If the new coach plans to change that emphasis it will take more than 9 months or so to implement. A class with some throwers and sprinters would be nice.

Four Rockets (according to the headline as of about 5:20 pm Eastern) or five Rockets (by my count) receive All-MAC honors (either first or second team).

Here's the link. If four is the right number, let me know what obvious thing it is I'm overlooking. Or if I just need to relearn how to count. 03-confused

Unless one of them goes by two names or they got the list wrong it is five.

RE: 2013-14 Track and Field Thread
DVR'd the Big Ten indoor championships and while zipping through it - they showed the rankings for men's track and field and saw that Akron was ranked around 17 or 18. That was surprising to me. Must have built a good program from Cleveland area talent that didn't go to OSU. Never heard of Akron having a good team before - but I don't follow it much at all even though I love watching the competition.

Have to go back and re-watch some things. Fell asleep during the women's 5K with the runner from UM having nearly a half lap lead on the field with about 1K to go. Have to see if she held on or not.

Also saw that hurdles went to Ofili, a sophomore from Ypsi and UofM. Anyone know if this is Frank's sister? I know his brother ended up at UM for football.

They've been good for awhile and took a leap forward when Shawn Barber arrived. Barber set a Canadian record his freshman year at 18'5" and is a top 50 ranked vaulter in the world. Akron has a great vaulting program with the top 3 in the MAC, all over 17'+. They are strong on the women's side as well.

Guess line 6 should read "Former meet record". Looks like the new coach may know a little about distance runners. Megan is getting nice times in a variety of distances.
