Sometimes people forget just how hard these guys worked to get the most from their talent.

Artist: Jackson 5
Album: Dancing Machine
Song: "Dancing Machine"
February 19, 1974 Motown Records

Artist: The Jacksons
Album: The Jacksons
Song: "Enjoy Yourself"
October 29, 1976 Epic/CBS/Philadelphia International Records

Artist: The Jacksons
Album: Destiny
Song: "Blame It On The Boogie"
August 23, 1978 Epic/CBS Records

Quote:"Blame It on the Boogie" is a song originally released in 1978 by English singer-songwriter Mick Jackson and also The Jacksons.
Co-written by Mick Jackson (credited as Michael George Jackson-Clarke) as well as Mick's brother David Jackson and Elmar Krohn.

Although Mick Jackson recorded the song in 1977, "Blame It on the Boogie" was written in hopes of being sold to Stevie Wonder.

The Mick Jackson track was showcased in 1978 at Midem where according to Mick Jackson: "The Jacksons' manager [Peter Kerstin] heard the track being played...and took a tape recording of it...back to the States [where] The Jacksons quickly recorded a version so it would be out before mine." In fact, the Mick Jackson recording was released by Atlantic Records in the US in August 1978.

According to Michael Jackson of the Jacksons, Bobby Colomby, who was producing the Jacksons' Destiny album, brought the group "Blame It on the Boogie". "It was an uptempo, finger-poppin'-time type song that was a good vehicle for the band approach we wanted to cultivate. I had fun slurring the chorus: [the lyric] 'Blame It on the Boogie' could be sung in one breath without putting my lips together."

Artist: The Jacksons
Album: Destiny
Song: "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)"
1979 Epic/CBS Records

PTNC, diggin' what you spinning
I'm still on the dancin' kick.
Speaking of which, found this old gem:

Freddy "Rerun" Berry, Toni "Oh, Mickey you're so fine" Basil & Shabba-Doo (Ozone) when they were all in together as The Lockers:

Artist: The Lockers
Dance: pop 'n' lockin'
Jan 25th, 1975

The beginning of Locking can be traced to one man, Don Campbell. In the late 1960s he put together several fad dances adding moves of his own (known as the "Lock") when performing. The original lock was created by accident: Don Campbell couldn't do a move called the 'The Robot Sweep' and stopped at a particular point whilst moving his arms, creating a 'locking' effect. He wasn't able to perform it fluently, for he couldn't remember which step to take next. (Even the acting towards the audience was spontaneous: when people started laughing at Don because of his unfamiliar moves, he responded by pointing at them.) These halts soon became popular as Don added them into his performances. The resulting dance was called Campbellocking, which was later shortened to Locking. In the early 1970s this set off a movement of Locking dance groups, notably Campbell's group The Lockers. Other lockers Jimmy "Scoo B Doo" Foster, Greggory 'Campbellock Jr.' Pope, Tony "GoGo" Lewis & James "Skeeter Rabbit "Higgins,Fred Mr Penguin' Berry, Leo "Fluky Luke ' Williamson, Damita Jo Freeman and others also helped set the foundation for the locking dance and clothes style. Clothes style can consist of loud striped socks, pegged pants that stopped at the knees, bright colorful satin shirts with big collars, big colorful bow ties, gigantic Apple Boy hats, and white , etc...Break dancing in its infancy...props to the guys that started all !!!

As the thread began....

Artist: New Order
Album: Low-Life
Track: "Sub-culture"
13 May 1985 Factory Records

I like walking in the park when it gets late at night
I move 'round in the dark and leave when it gets light
I sit around by day tied up in chains so tight
These crazy words of mine so wrong they could be right

What do I get out of this? I always try, I always miss
One of these days you'll go back to your home
You won't even notice that you are alone
One of these days when you sit by yourself
You'll realize you can't shout without someone else
In the end you will submit it's got to hurt you a little bit

I like talking in my sleep when people work so hard
They need what they can't keep a choice that leaves them scarred
A view without a room unveils the truth so soon
And when the sun goes down you've lost what you have found

Toni is the chick dancing in the Lockers video posted just a few above.

Of course, most know Toni for this song/video:

Artist: Toni Basil
Album: Word of Mouth
Song: "Mickey"
1982 Chrysalis Records/Radial Choice Records

Toni is wearing her old Las Vegas High cheerleader uniform from when she was a Wildcats cheerleader growing up. The song is actually a cover of an older song called "Kitty" but Toni added the cheer to her rearrangement of the tune.

Toni Basil dancing smooth at 72 years old (can you move even half as good at whatever your age is?)

Did you know Toni was in and helped choreograph the scene in Elvis Presley's movie "Viva Las Vegas" with Anne Margaret?. See the girl with the red dress on (in the video?) that's Toni. Also, famous actress Teri Garr, with her hair up, is dressed in white top and black skirt--look around 1:13 on left.

Toni dancing at 74:

Toni finally, performing the song, "Wham Rebop Boom Bam" in 1978:

So glad I got to see him when I was a kid. My mom took me to see him on the Bad Tour as my first concert.

Edit: Oops, wasn't on the latest post. Referring to MJ.

Real piano, real electric guitars, real bass guitar, real drums, real horns. Even real spoons on bottles (courtesy of Michael and his siblings). Oh, and his real voice. No auto-tune. Recorded when he was about 20 years old. Oh, and he wrote it and produced it, too.

Artist: Michael Jackson
Album: Off The Wall
Song: "Workin' Day and Night"
August 10, 1979 Epic Records

I hadn't picked up any MJ in over a year when I was looking for something upbeat for my workout. Just saw today that there is/was some kind of TV show concerning his rather unsavory-sounding predilections. I think of MJ as a musician and an enormously talented person who because of the way he was raised and developed never grew into a man psychologically. Coupled with his enormous wealth and popularity it opened the door for some disappointing choices and possibly mu8ch more. I certainly wouldn't let my kid have been alone with him on a "visit." But we do listen to his songs once in a while, and I use it as a parable of what can happen when one loses touch with normality, reality and God in today's world in favor of worshiping fame, money and themselves or their own perceived success.

I will enjoy MJ, especially his earlier years as a tremendously talented artist.

Artist: Barry Gibb
The last Bee Gee
Sunday Night Interview
This story originally aired on the 23 September 2012.

When the Bee Gees put the Fever into Saturday Night, they became one of the most successful pop groups in history. Born in England but raised in Queensland, this band of brothers - Barry, Robin and Maurice - were musical geniuses. When Robin Gibb died, eldest brother Barry became the sole surviving Bee Gee - or, as he puts it, "the last man standing". (Younger brother Andy had also died from alcoholism at a very young age.) He spoke about it for the first time four months after the tragedy, coming to terms with his loss as he spoke to Rahni Sadler.
