I have a very differing view on this....but that's what the spin room is for....

I get ya and easily pine in that wish-tank....

this thread and that song are better than reality....

my mistake for bringing it up.....music is better than all of the above....and that is your overall point (I think I'm reading your prose correctly)

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
friend showed this to me tonight after dinner.

Artist: Tangerine Kitty for Metro Trains Melbourne
Album: {It appears to be a video game/app game}
Song: "Dumb Ways to Die"
2012

Dumb Ways to Die is an Australian public service announcement campaign by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to promote rail safety. The campaign video went viral through sharing and social media starting in November 2012. The campaign was devised by advertising agency McCann Melbourne. John Mescall, executive creative director of McCann, said “The aim of this campaign is to engage an audience that really doesn't want to hear any kind of safety message, and we think Dumb Ways To Die will.” McCann estimated that within two weeks, it had generated at least $50 million worth of global media value in addition to more than 700 media stories, for "a fraction of the cost of one TV ad". According to Metro Trains, the campaign contributed to a more than 30% reduction in "near-miss" accidents, from 13.29 near-misses per million kilometres in November 2011 – January 2012, to 9.17 near-misses per million kilometres in November 2012 – January 2013.

The song was written by John Mescall with music by Ollie McGill from The Cat Empire, who also produced it. It was performed by Emily Lubitz, the lead vocalist of Tinpan Orange, with McGill providing backing vocals. It was released on iTunes, attributed to the artist "Tangerine Kitty" (a reference to Tinpan Orange and The Cat Empire)

Wtf? I just spent awhile going through all of his posts. I didn't see anything close to bannable but I guess they'd remove whatever infraction brought it on.

There can be no better video for a Stink ban than Tool's Eulogy. Hell, Tool is where he got his name.

Stink, if you're reading this....this Tool's for you amigo. 04-cheers

"Eulogy"

[2x]
He had a lot to say.
He had a lot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him.
[2x]

We're gonna miss him. [2x]

Yeah, so long.
We wish you well.
Told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well, so long.
Don't cry, yeah,
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him.
We'll miss him.
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him.
We'll miss him.

We're gonna miss him. [2x]

Yeah, no way, yeah, to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.

But it was so loud.
You sure could yell.
Took a stand on every little thing
And so loud.

Yeah, standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, and
Someone who would die for me.

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you ******* lie.

Don't you step out of line.
Don't you step out of line.
Don't you step out of line.
Don't you ******* lie.

You claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

He had a lot to say. [2x]
He had a lot of nothing to say. [2x]

Come down.
Get off your ******* cross.
We need the ******* space to nail the next fool martyr.

To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies. [sic]
Goodbye...

There's nothing to be up on amigo. They haven't put anything out since 10,000 Days came out 10 years ago in 2006.

Earlier this year rumor came out they may release something later this year. I love them. I can hear one of their songs and end up on a 2 hour long jag through my collection of them. They're genius on every level IMO and I'm not even close to being one of those Tool hipsters.

I know Stink loved em too. Hopefully this is just a short hiatus.

I guess I need to pay closer attention as I missed the Stink on Stink. This board and particularly this thread is not the same without his unique posts and point of view.
Tool wasn't on my radar before Stink, but it sure as hell is now!

We need to protest!

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artist: Kirsty MacColl
Album: Galore (compilation)
Cut: "They Don't Know"
June 1979 Stiff Records

This is the original, but most people don't know that it was hers and not Tracey's. "They Don't Know" is a song written and composed by Kirsty MacColl who recorded it in 1979. It became popular on radio in the United Kingdom, reaching #2 on the Music Week airplay chart. However, complications involving a strike at her distributors prevented the single from being shipped and promoted properly, preventing release of the single. MacColl's version of "They Don't Know" thus failed to appear on the official UK Singles Charts which is entirely sales-based.Although the song was not taken from an album, it later appeared on MacColl's compilation Galore.

Kirsty's dad, folk singer Ewan MacColl, wrote "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" a huge hit for Roberta Flak.

Kirsty lived her relatively short life from 10 October 1959 – 18 December 2000 She sang on recordings produced by her husband, superproducer Steve Lillywhite, such as Simple Minds. At the age of 41, MacColl died after being hit by a powerboat in Mexico, being killed instantly after pushing her two teenage sons out of the way.

Artist: Tracey Ullman
Album: You Broke My Heart in 17 Places
Cut: "They Don't Know"
September 9, 1983 MCA Records/Stiff Records

In 1983, Tracey Ullman recorded a version of the song. Already well known in the UK as an actress and comedian, "They Don't Know" was issued as her second single there, reaching #2. MacColl performed backing vocals on Ullman's version and reprised her original "bay-ay-be-ee" in the middle of the song. The song was also included on Ullman's debut album, You Broke My Heart in 17 Places.

The track was released in the United States the following year, as Ullman's first single there. At the time, Ullman was almost a complete unknown in the US, as her TV appearances had not been seen in that country. Publicity for the single was aided by the fact that the video for "They Don't Know" featured a cameo from Paul McCartney; at the time it was filmed, Ullman was filming a minor role in McCartney's film Give My Regards to Broad Street. "They Don't Know" eventually reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on the Adult Contemporary chart in the United States.

It is sometimes erroneously reported that Ullman's version of "They Don't Know" simply uses the backing track from MacColl's original single. In fact, Ullman's version is an all brand-new recording, and the two versions are noticeably different: Ullman's version, which was produced by Peter Collins, is in a different key, and it features a very slightly faster tempo, a distinctly different arrangement and a guitar solo that differs substantially from the one played on MacColl's version, which was produced by Liam Sternberg. The confusion may stem from the fact that Ullman did use a previously-existing MacColl backing track when recording her own version of MacColl's "Terry" in 1984. (Both versions of "Terry" were co-produced by MacColl.)

She emigrated from the United Kingdom to the United States where she starred in her own network television comedy series, The Tracey Ullman Show, on the then-new American TV Network FOX, from 1987 until 1990, famous as the place where "The Simpsons" cartoon got its start. Julie Kavner (voice of Marge Simpson) and Dan Castellaneta (voice of Homer Simpson) were two of the key members of Ullman's show ensemble.

Back to Kirsty (not Kristy) MacColl. She is perhaps best known for her own cover version of Billy Bragg's wistful song, "A New England." It was her biggest solo hit - reaching number 7 in the UK Singles Chart and number 8 in the Irish Singles Chart. Bragg even wrote a few extra verses for MacColl's version.

"I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them--but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care.
I don't want to change the world,
I'm not looking for a new England
Are you looking for another girl?"

Artist: Kirsty MacColl
Album: Galore (compilation)
Cut: "A New England"
Songwriter: Billy Bragg
December 1984 Stiff Records
