good one, Dog!

Was in Houston in early 90's and got to show early. Had dinner with the band. Never forget it. Crazy thing was, there were only about 100 people who bothered to show up for this man and his band's show. Same thing a few weeks later in Atlanta when I saw him again. I never couldn't understand why more people didn't come to see him while they still could. The man INVENTED a new form of guitar-playing. Amazing shows. Helluva nice group of guys.

Artist: Dick Dale
Cut: "Nitro" (Live on KEXP)

If you haven't watched the new season of True Detective, you are missing what portends to be a very dark tail and will be very good if it is anything like last season. Here is a little taste with a ditty from the show.

Lera Lynn - True Detective (Curly Tonic & Franz S. Bootleg) The Only Thing Worth Fighting For

Dale rocks!

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
I think the current top commenter for this video got it right when he said:

"The meaning of this song is hidden from the young; To them it is simply incomprehensible. However, as the years drift by, the meanings will become clearer and clearer until it comes into sharp focus later in life. Then, and only then will they really appreciate it for the magnificent song that it is. This will repeat itself with each generation. Such is life."

Just an incredible, incredible song, the kind people today don't even try to write anymore.

Songwriters: Charles Aznavour (wrote the original French version entitled ""Hier Encore", whose original French title translates as "Only Yesterday", originally released in September 1964. Herbert Kretzmer wrote the English-language lyrics.
Performing Artist: Roy Clark
Ablum: Yesterday When I Was Young
Song: "Yesterday When I Was Young"
1969 Dot Records

History and Interesting Notes from Wikipedia:

It was subsequently released in English as "Yesterday, When I Was Young", in Italian as "Ieri Si", in Danish as "Hvor tiden går", in Japanese 帰り来ぬ青春, and in Spanish as "Ayer Aún". It is considered one of Aznavour's greatest hits.

The English-language lyrics, written by Herbert Kretzmer, tell of a man reflecting on his life. He recounts how he had wasted his youth on self-centered pursuits, and that, now that he is older, he will not be able to do all that he had planned; this implies that he may be close to his impending death.

In the United States, the best-known version was recorded by country music performer Roy Clark. His version became his biggest hit up to that time on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, peaking at No. 9 in August 1969, and indeed, it became his only top 40 pop hit, peaking at No. 19.

Charles Aznavour (born Shahnour Varinag Aznavourian French pronunciation: [ʃaʁl aznavuʁ]; born 22 May 1924, still living at this writing) is a French and Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, public activist and diplomat. Aznavour is known for his unique tenor voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. He has written more than 1,200 songs, sung in eight languages, sold more than 180 million records.

He is one of France's most popular and enduring singers. He has been dubbed France's Frank Sinatra, while music critic Stephen Holden has described Aznavour as "French pop deity. "He is also arguably the most famous Armenian of his time. In 1998, Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan.

He has sung for presidents, popes and royalty, as well as at humanitarian events. In response to the 1988 Armenian earthquake, he founded the charitable organization Aznavour for Armenia along with his long-time friend impresario Levon Sayan. In 2009, he was appointed ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland, as well as Armenia's permanent delegate to the United Nations at Geneva. He started his most recent tour in 2014.

Sometimes described as "France's Frank Sinatra", Aznavour sings frequently about love. He has written musicals and about a thousand songs, and made more than one hundred records. Aznavour's voice is shaded towards the tenor range, but possesses the low range and coloration more typical of a baritone, contributing to his unique sound. Aznavour speaks and sings in many languages (French, English, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, Armenian, Neapolitan), which has helped him perform at Carnegie Hall, in the USA, and other major venues around the world. He also recorded at least one song from the 18th century Armenian poet Sayat Nova, and a popular song, Im Yare in Armenian. Que C'est Triste Venise, sung in French, Italian (Com'è Triste Venezia), Spanish (Venecia Sin Ti), English (How Sad Venice Can Be), and German (Venedig in Grau), is one of Aznavour's most famous multilingual songs.

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Needed some metal for staying awake during early morning driving and the whole road trip so I elected to bust out the following:

Body Count:
" ('92)

--Great debut disc from them. Lots of good jams. I was actually impressed Ice T could legitly front a metal outfit.

Born Dead('94)

--Good follow up and some great work.

Violent Demise/Last Days('97)

--Initially I was disappointed in this one as it was more sex related that social and political like the previous 2. It had a few good songs but even to this day it ranks as my last favorite BC album.

Murder for Hire('06)

--I never even knew they made this album till a few years ago and I instantly bought it off amazon.com. Its actually quote good IMO.

Manslaughter ('14)

--A kick ass return to form. Lots of great tracks on this cd IMO.

Part II

Biohazard, a band that caught my ear when MTV still showed music videos and they still had the REAL Headbanger's Ball. I loved their style and their rap sensibilities.

So here we go what what I got to from their catalog over the last few days:

" ('90)

--Good cd, but I didn't know they had one before Urban Discipline till a few years ago and I bought it.

Urban Discipline ('92)

--Lots of good stuff here. After this they also did some stuff with Onyx.

State of the World Address ('94)

--Great album and the Sen Dog from Cypress Hill guest appearance was a nice touch.

Mata Leao ('96)

New World Disorder ('99)

Will post other albums once I have listed to them again...

"Tin Tin"?

Artist: Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy
Album: the ups and downs
Track: "Kiss Me"
April 1985 10 Records

He was a founding member and vocalist/bassist of Duran Duran. While attending the School of Foundation Studies & Experimental Workshop at Birmingham Polytechnic (now Birmingham City University) Duffy met John Taylor. Together they formed the group Duran Duran, along with Taylor's childhood friend, Nick Rhodes. While Taylor was the guitarist (later switching to bass) and Rhodes played the synthesizer, Duffy was the band's vocalist/lyricist and bassist. He left both the school and the band in 1979, before Duran Duran signed with EMI in 1980.

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
Artist: The Devils (Nick Rhodes & Stephen Duffy)
Album: dark circles
Track: "Memory Palaces"
2002 Tapemodern, Universal

In 1999, Duffy found a tape recording of 1978-1979 Duran Duran music that was in storage. Shortly afterwards, he had a chance meeting with Nick Rhodes. Reminiscences led to a desire to collaborate, and they ended up re-recording the music on the tape. They did not change any of the lyrics, and used only late-70s-era instrumentation with modern recording techniques. The result was the album Dark Circles, released under the name The Devils.

Artist: CCCP
Album: Clockwork Germany
Track: "American Soviets"
1986

"Why did the Russians invade Afghanistan?"

"Memories...♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬"
"Numbers!"

C.C.C.P. (not to be confused with the rock band CCCP featuring singer John Payne) is a German synthpop act led by Rasputin Stoy. They were best known for their 1986 instrumentals "American-Soviets I" and "American-Soviets II", released by Clockwork Germany. This six-minute song themed on the Cold War became a hit on the US Billboard charts, the German Top 75 and other European charts. Their follow-up singles ("Made in Russia" and "Orient Express") hit the number one and number two spots on official music charts in the same week (Hong Kong, Benelux, France and Spain). Their 1990 song "Don't Kill The Rainforest" was also a minor alternative radio hit. Their band name C.C.C.P. stands for Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, which is Russian for U.S.S.R.

C.C.C.P. released their seventh album, Quantic Shamanism Through Digital Western featuring Meyhiel, in January 2008 on the art label MillePlateauxMedia.

Today, the group now only consists of the original band leader Rasputin Stoy, a.k.a. Rai Streubel and Frank Schendler (ex-Beat-A-Max).

Great song by the Grammy nominated band "The SteelDrivers," a local band. Song is about the bloody Civil War battle at the Stones River here in Murfreesboro. The band was here in Murfreesboro this past weekend performing at the annual Uncle Dave Macon Days Festival.
