He barked loudly about "sanctity of contract" concerning the ND game.
He doesn't mind leaving ASU while under contract with them.
Just be consistent.
He has been consistent - consistently hypocritical. You missed that memo.
To be fair -- even though Patterson is hypocritical about leaving ASU, what he did with the ND game was in ASU's best interests and no doubt ASU people are happy about it. If ND was trying to cancel the game without paying any compensation to ASU, then playing the game is a better deal for ASU as long as their net benefit from the game in Tempe is greater than zero, which of course it will be.
He won't be there for that ND game in Tempe. He bolted his contract. Lol.
Well, then you can tell Patterson what you think of him the year after that, when Notre Dame plays Texas.

RE: Steve-O, Steve-O, Steve-O......!!!!!
The "Word"
From Shuttlesworth that is, InsideTexas writer:
"First, sorry for the delay, I've been scrambling to talk to sources this morning to find out what transpired because as of this weekend, Oliver Luck still thought he was the guy. Talking to a source close to the Luck camp, he received the call yesterday informing him that they were going to be making an offer to Steve Patterson of ASU instead and my source says Luck is "heart broken."
Here is a guy who has been informally working behind the scenes to build a team that would come to Austin and clean up the mess. This team included potential candidates of the football coaching staff and its support personnel who have told Inside Texas they had been contacted by Luck about potential openings in Austin. In other words, Luck thought he was the guy and was acting in that capacity albeit unofficially.
So where did it all go wrong for Luck?
Our source indicates that Luck was in final negotiations, some would call it the "nibbling phase" because an offer was agreed upon in principle, and Luck made a request that there be a clear and agreed upon resolution to the Mack Brown situation before he took the reins as AD. Luck was under the impression that Mack was already done so this seemed like a benign request at the time. In other words, Luck didn't want to come in to be the hatchet man and this is where the committee started to sour on Luck.
The committee then turned its attention to Patterson who, according to reports, knocked the interview out of the park and blew away the committee. More importantly, the committee knows Patterson has no problem coming in and cleaning house as his record of firing over 100 employees over the course of a year will attest. We're told Patterson was vocal about being the hatchet man and that's exactly what the committee is looking for so reports that he'd be willing to allow Mack another year are erroneous.
Patterson will come in and handle the Mack Brown situation, fire Barnes, and most likely do a total makeover in the men's AND women's athletic departments including getting rid of Plonsky we're told.
This is good news all the way around because this is not the Bellmont comfort hire some folks think. The change agents are still driving the train if you consider the fact that Patterson was choice 1b alongside Luck. Delconte, Bowlsby, and Castiglione were Deloss Dodds comfort hires--had one of those three been hired, I'd be worried about change getting done quickly. Patterson is not a Deloss guy, or a Mack Brown guy--he's a Nick Saban guy, and that's one of the reasons he was hired."

People change jobs all the time. Short term changes in football schedules are a lot more difficult.
This 2nd post of yours on this is being really hypocritical.

The general impression I get is that Texas fans take this guy only slightly more seriously than ACC fans take the Dude. I think its pretty clear this guy doesn't know what he is talking about.
There have been two other bloggers telling two very different stories about the hiring. I suspect none of the 3 have a clue.

What were the terms of that "agreement"?
All ND home games? All neutral sites? Which teams?
Where can I read this contract?

So what was the big attractive factor for Patterson? Why did Texas want him over Luck?

Supposedly his marketing experience and ideas. He was GM for the Houston Aeros, Houston Rockets, Portland TrailBlazers and a VP for the Houston Texans.

Lots of scheduling contracts get broken. I don't know the timing of the ASU/ND one, but its when its done late is when its a problem. Its also a little questionable to break it when you have had the home game and the other hasn't barring unusual circumstances.

According to all the rumors I heard, it was his willingness to be the hatchet man who cleaned house, which Luck wished to avoid, due to his experiences with WVU's football program changes when he took over in Morgantown. Luck didn't want a divided fanbase in Austin, like has happened at WVU, since he hired Holgorsent to take over for Stew.
Patterson had no problems with cleaning house, and said so in the interview. He also had no mistakes on his resume, like Luck had with the original IMG bid. But it was the willingness to do house cleaning that was the true tipping point.
