This, plus that was for Baylor's inclusion. Plus what's good for ECU is good for a large chunk of the state.

My point exactly. It behooves them to include us. Maybe not as a member of the ACC, but by pushing the conference we are in for D4 inclusion.

so your logic for ECU is "well if they dont get in it hurts a big chunk of the state....no politician can ignore that"

well what about colorado state/utah state. how can you say NC politicians cant possibly ignore ECU but not realize that same logic applies to csu & usu even better? were talking about the 3rd best public school in NC vs the 2nd best public schools in UT & CO. I dont see politicians ignoring that either.

and then I say well......what about idaho/wyoming who are in danger of losing their #1 state school. That affects the ENTIRE STATE. how do you expect the politicians there to not ignore that either?

this isnt a troll. however i do know that uconn, temple, cincy, & ecu are well represented on this board. so yes it can appear that i chose wisely with the schools that dont get in, but if you think about it.....

This is pretty what I would consider the definition of a troll. Writing something outlandish to a illicit a response from a specially selected group.

You stated New Mexico State has a better chance at a P-5 invite than UC, UConn, Memphis, ECU, UNLV and Nevada. Can you walk us through this, point by point? Attendance? Recruiting Grounds? P-5 Rivalries? Athletic budget? On field performance?

Trolling?

Valid points. I think states with the risk of losing their #1 school are already up ***** creek. Half of the argument for ECU is that being in a division with the possibility of the BCS bowls, instate rivalries or at least a good bowl are what drives our fans to support our school and boost the 2m+ Eastern half of the state (or when in-state rivalry games are played the entire state).

Does Idaho/wyoming really do that for their state? what are the economic impacts of their team not making D4 and what pull does their state really have? Would D4 even be that much of a boost in revenue? All questions that we can only speculate at this time.

I do see other schools in the same boat as ECU. CSU? I'm not exactly sure what kind of impact they have on the local economy but I'm sure it's decent. If they can convince the people at Boulder that they are an asset to the state, and that they should lobby for their D4 invite then I don't see anything wrong with that. The same case could be made for other schools who make big economic impacts for their regions.

I will give credit to ECU for doing what it takes to build a solid fan base, Ecu was forward thinking and made solid investments. There are other states that couldn't support a school like us even with less schools and a decent population. North Carolinian's are very college sports minded (from birth).

ive said many times that a full explanation is coming, i just got a much bigger response than I had hoped and am still interested in hat others have to say.

my whole theory is based on the best schools dont get in. The only schools that get favored by good recruiting grounds are the texas & florida schools. p-5 rivalries is a MAJOR component of my argument as well as politics. I actually make a connection between rivalries & politics and that the two feed off each other to propel a school into the D-4.

you are the first person to say ive made a valid point on this thread. and i hope thats a step closer to making people believe that this is not a troll. Im not trying to disrespect these schools, I just think the western schools have a massive advantage over the eastern schools.

you are on the right tracks with the revenue that football brings in to east carolina. however we have two slightly different viewpoints on it.

yours: ECU football revenue directly helps the state and as a d4 member they will get better football revenue so NC politicians must act.

the way I see it: football or no football ECU will be doing wonders for the state of NC. having 27k students does wonders for the economy even without the football aspect of it. however i dont focus on football revenue but the prestige of being an FBS school. that does wonders for the brand of ECU and is really a giant advertisement for your university which in turns makes the university more money but more importantly adds to your universities prestige. the strengths of a states universities is a reflection on the state itself. Having a good education system makes the state strong and helps you retain/attract educated people which propels business/economy (and i could keep going here but you get the picture)

to make it short i believe that football helps the university which in turns makes the university better, which then makes the state better. I never go down the X dollars for the state road because some things you just cant put a price on.

IMO thats why i think these politicians will fight tooth & nail to get their schools in whereas in NC its important to get ECU in....but its not do or die.

I can assure you that many AAC and MWC schools will be members -one way of the other- of this new D4 should it come to fruition. I would almost be willing to bet that you would even see a few schools mixed in from the MAC, CUSA and the Sunbelt.

BYU?

the source I heard said 'maybe' on BYU...not sure what the hang up with them is or is perceived to be. They def belong on all accounts.

Is your source Mike Aresco? I hate to tell you this, but . . . . .

For ECU D4 is do or die. Without playing at the highest level in sports, ECU loses a lot of it's glamour and becomes less attractive (as would any sports school). Less money will be pumped in and the eastern portion of the state and it relies solely on agriculture, military and potentially medicine(brody will still be an attractive med school). It's not that I think D4 will boost the economy, it's that without being able to play at the highest level, we start to see negative impacts.

I can pretty much guess your counterpoints and you know mine so it. It's do or die for us (if this whole thing is about separating who gets to play at the highest level) and our state may see some very nasty impacts in the east.

Also going to throw in my homer vote which could be just as "wrong" and say the AAC gets the nod as the "cupcake" games... never been a fan of the media market theory but we do have some teams in big places. That and all of those western flagships do nothing but pad the W column. Hell, at least in the AAC this year you can get the W's, the eastern media markets & the eyeballs.

My personal feelings are if there is a new division for the highest level of play it will be P5 only. It could also be P5 plus select indy's who meet a criteria, which is a lot different from yours. Something very low calculation like 45k butts in seats + X athletic budget and agreeing to the set rules. Something along those lines. I'd say it's 50-50.

Your making my point for me. I wouldn't expect them to ignore it. I just used my alma mater as an example. I don't know how the politics play out in those other states, but I am familiar with Eastern North Carolina and ECU's impact in this area of the state. I'll reiterate that I didn't say the legislature or the NC ACC schools WOULD support ECU moving up, but that it would behoove them to do so because of its economic impact.

I can pretty much guess your counterpoints and you know mine so it. It's do or die for us (if this whole thing is about separating who gets to play at the highest level) and our state may see some very nasty impacts in the east.

when I talk "do or die" im referring to the states politicians not the school. every G5 school is fighting for its entry into d4 right now, so literally every school is at "do or die" status right now.

What is this nonsense?

You mean you didn't know the Idaho Vandals were a sleeping giant in college football? Shoot between the fertile recruiting grounds of Idaho and cramming the fans into the 16,000 seat Kibbie Dome every Saturday, they will be able to ride that 18-70-3 all-time record vs Washington St. into the D4 sunset.

Newsflash OP, Washington St doesn't give two sh!ts about Idaho getting into the D4 and they don't have any pull anyways they are just lucky they can ride some coattails in right now. And as for the other powerhouse rivals of Boise, Montana, and Idaho St; the P5 doesn't care about any of those schools and what they have to say.

If you would like, I can go school by school and refresh your memory about how Wyoming (top rival of Colorado St who is in the same boat), UTEP (Half the B!G probably doesn't even know what this stands for nor do they care), Rice (mmm Chinese), etc. have as much a chance of getting in as I do of banging Mila Kunis tonight.

Sorry if i offended any Idaho, Wyoming, UTEP, or Rice fans I'm just proving a point and I really hope you didn't have your hopes up after reading this thread anyways.

ECU is improving their academics and upgrading their stadium.

I think an ECU program with a ranking in the 150s and selling out a 60K stadium and the NC market puts them into the acceptable range for SEC consideration since we really want into NC but the odds of any TR school leaving the ACC is very unlikely.

Well executed fishing. Some pretty irrational hate of some former affiliates there.
