RE: NEW Old Dominion at East Carolina Game Thread
ECU fans so how were our fans and was this really the most buses ever to show up from a visiting team?

Quote:ODU took 22 bus loads of people to Greenville, where the Monarchs fell to ECU, 52-38, in their first game against a Football Bowl Championship team.

“Someone at East Carolina made a comment that the most buses they’ve ever had show up was 10 when they played North Carolina State,” Wilder said. "That speaks well for our fans."

More than likely the most buses. But not number of fans, NC State, WVU, UNC, VT, and Happy Appy have had more, 7 to 10 thousand. But, 22 bus loads, no I've never seen that many here.

I'd put ODU fan attendance at the game around 5,500.

That is why ECU should try to continue to play such schools as ODU and UNCC for nonconference games (hopefully in near future all three will be back in same conference)........we may not bring 22 buses but we will have thousands of fans present. It would be a win.....win situation for all three schools because of locations and football visions.

Secondly, you guys better enjoy your QB while you have him...It will basically be impossible to replace him. He is one hell of a player and he is the reason you guys were in the game. I was very impressed with his arm strength and he is a damn magician at avoiding sacks and getting out of the pocket. He is almost impossible to defend...I wish we would have game planned to have a spy on him. There were many times we had him sacked for him only to escape and pick-up chunks of yards. If you guys had a mere mortal at QB that could have been one ugly game for you guys. You guys also have a damn good offensive line, they are big and athletic.

As far as each teams defenses go...The first thing you have to understand is there were a lot of possessions for each team in this game and that really skews the stats...Each of us run offenses that score quickly and are very hard to defend. It will be interesting to see how each teams defenses perform throughout the season...I really do not think it is a matter of terrible defenses, I am giving a lot of credit to each teams offense.

Hopefully we never have to play Heinicke again...Dude is flat out nasty.

What round you think he'll get drafted when he leaves? If he continues to be this impressive has to be first or second right?
Who knows. Keenum went undrafted after breaking every NCAA record. Was disappointing not to see this game. Sounds like a classic.

TH's size will keep him from getting drafted very high if at all. he'll get a shot at a roster spot though. we won't have to worry about it until after next season though and thats a good thing for us.

I don't know if he's as big as Russell Wilson, but he's better at this stage.

Wilson has the Rose Bowl bound Wisconsin to announce himself. ODU ain't got nothing close.

So, TH might not get drafted... but the NFL has shown time and time again that if you're good enough to play (regardless of what level of college football) you will get a shot.

TH is good enough to play, from what I saw. I hope he gets a shot.

That doesn't matter - scouts have been watching Heinicke grow since his freshman year when he threw 25 TD's and 1 int COGS

It sure as hell didn't hurt. Wilson wouldn't have done anything close to that at NCSUX.

Yeah, but the coach was an idiot.

Let not forget that he has another year to go. He is going to set all kinds of records in CUSA. I expect he will get some serious looks.

Carden was very good. He honestly did have the benefit of having guys wide open, but hewas smart and a curate and took what the defense gave him

I didn't like the late hits, but I think it was just frustration setting in. I was very impressed with a couple ECU players that seem they may play in Sunday. Hardy? #56? Also, you bastards took that WRer from us and he killed us in the red zone.

Derrell Johnson is #56 and his late hit was stupid and he'll pay fro that today with Coach Connors in the the sand pit. The other one was stupid, but wasn't bad a slight push late out of bounds.

The WR your referring to is Dayvon Grayson #85 and he turned heads as soon as he stepped on the practice field.

Justin Hardy #2 is what I said he was, unstoppable, he will get his 10+ catches every game, no one and I mean no one has stopped him yet, not South Carolina, VT, UNC, no one. And, this year, everyone better watch out he is more focused than ever. He is playing this year and the rest of his ECU career for his Dad, who past away after last season.

Haven't brought it up and haven't seen anyone say anything about it. And, I don't want to start anything with this. But, WTH was with coming out way early and stand in front of the student section, blocking our guys from them? Come on man, that was not cool. Good way to start a fight before the game.05-nono Show some respect and let the other team have their entrance, you wouldn't like if someone did it to you. I know Wilder wanted to get them fired up, but that's not the right way, need to show more class than that. That was my only complaint, not super huge, but that the stuff Houston's former coach Kevin Sumlin pulled in 2009 championship game.

I am just now getting around to catching up on here. I got back this afternoon and watched the game again just to see it from a better seat.

I don't believe there was any malice intended by Wilder or the team pregame. We have absolutely no idea what your entrance routine is. From my real-time perspective, it appeared that the Pirates made an unnecesary run down to where the ODU team was to taunt and and intimidate them. In our section, we were all commenting on what a classless act that was by the Pirates. Until I read your comment, I had absolutely no idea that you guys had a really different perspective, and that it appeared to you that ODU went out of its way to try to cause controversy by being in an area they should not have been in.

Having watched Wilder for six years now, I can say with a high level of confidence that he would never knowingly do something so stupid as you described. At this point, I would just write it off as one of those unpredictable things that just happened.

I was proud of Heinicke. I thought he played a great game and ably demonstrated why we think so highly of him. We did have a track meet there for a while, and I certainly do not feel like our offensive line was "dominated."

Carden was absolutely unconscious. He played lights our and deserves a lot of recognition. He was much better than I anticipated and played one hellofa game, and Hardy is nothing less than sensational. if Cato is any where near as good as he is supposed to be, the ECU - Marshall game should be just as entertaining as it appears to have been last year.

Good luck to you the rest of the year. I had a great tailgating experience and did not meet any Pirate fans that were anything less than gracious hosts.

04-cheers

I watched the DVR last night. Heinicke was under distress the whole game. Dominated isn't the right word, but ECUs D line had the edge IMO. We might have had 14 points with an average QB. Cardin was perfect, but he could have played a game of chess back there. We need to come up with some zone blitz type schemes and find some way to get pressure.
