Marshall played the worst team in the FBS. And Marshall had trouble with them for half the game. Marshall's secondary is terrible and even a bad team like Miami of Ohio exploited your corners and safeties.

It did help him quite a bit though that he had all freaking day to find his WR's. heinicke would put up 70 on our defense. Just being honest, they really are that bad.

Georgia state rushes for 600 yards against us last year. Let me restate that. Rushed........for 600 yards. Not total yardage.......rushing yards.

Our defense is weak and middle tier fcs caliber at best. With that said, your qb made zero mistakes and picked us apart exactly how he should have. Credit where it is due.

Heinicke had to deal with much more pressure and better coverage and still played nearly flawless football.

Regardless, great game, better team absolutely won. Good luck to you guys the rest of your season, well be over here in Norfolk trying to figure out some sort of gimmick defense to try and stop Maryland next week.

I think buddy Ryan's 4-6 is looking pretty good right now. Ha

Georgia SOUTHERN!!! NOT STATE!

My 2 cents. Heineke is the real deal. Out of the 8 quarters we have played against ODU, we only had an answer for him for the last half of the last quarter...ring his bell.

Kid is a stud and I'm glad he is able to show off on a big stage like a game at ECU. Wish I could have seen this game.

We should have sacked your QB about 10 times. The guy just broke away and made us pay. I hope your offense is as good as you guys think it is cause you gave our defense a fit today. Otherwise, we are in for a long high scoring year.

Secondly, you guys better enjoy your QB while you have him...It will basically be impossible to replace him. He is one hell of a player and he is the reason you guys were in the game. I was very impressed with his arm strength and he is a damn magician at avoiding sacks and getting out of the pocket. He is almost impossible to defend...I wish we would have game planned to have a spy on him. There were many times we had him sacked for him only to escape and pick-up chunks of yards. If you guys had a mere mortal at QB that could have been one ugly game for you guys. You guys also have a damn good offensive line, they are big and athletic.

As far as each teams defenses go...The first thing you have to understand is there were a lot of possessions for each team in this game and that really skews the stats...Each of us run offenses that score quickly and are very hard to defend. It will be interesting to see how each teams defenses perform throughout the season...I really do not think it is a matter of terrible defenses, I am giving a lot of credit to each teams offense.

Hopefully we never have to play Heinicke again...Dude is flat out nasty.

What round you think he'll get drafted when he leaves? If he continues to be this impressive has to be first or second right?

Still better than a long low scoring year that Holtz regularly had us doing...

Good luck the rest of the year, ODU.

The ACC hasn't taken their annual loss to an FCS squad yet this year, so if you want to beat Maryland next week it would be great for everybody. 04-cheers

You can't leave a spy on Heinicke. He would pick you apart with one guy less in coverage.

We have a once in a generation QB. I'm just glad he gets the opportunity to play FBS football where he belongs.

Good game ECU. Please beat VT.

I think people are being too harsh on ECUs defense. They got a lot of pressure to it, stopped the running game, and had tight coverages in many instances. Heinicke is just that good and ECU won't be facing many QBs that good. Cato?

There was not a game in the nation yesterday in which had 2 better QB's in it. Heinicke and Carden are both high quality. Neither team had the defensive quickness up front to phase them. Both kids feel the pressure and have a great ability to extend the play. Both of them were pressured numerous times and managed to make big plays. Both of them made almost no mistakes. The unfortunate fumble by Heinicke may have been the difference in the game.

The fans of both schools are down on their defenses this morning. I have a feeling that neither school will face another team that will tax their defense like last night (with the exception of Marshall..Cato is very good) and neither defense is as bad as they looked. This was a game in which the QB's really dominated the game on both sides of field. It was frustrating to watch from the stands..but..I appreciated the talent of Heinicke. He was fun to watch.

I hope ODU win the rest of their games. good luck

Not so sure, we were usually bringing an extra guy in pass rush that could have been used as a spy and not hurt the coverage in the back end. Can not do it in the game without preparing to do it in practice so who knows but I would like to see how it would have worked out. We actually had pretty good coverage down field, sure a few 1st game break downs but it is not like there were guys running open all night. There were several times we should have had coverage sacks, only to see your QB escape to make a big play. Oh well, time to move on...Good luck this season ODU.

Disappointed with the game but that QB is the real deal. Great awareness, definitely one of, if not the best one we will face.

This wasn't something new from Heinke. He ran for a lot of yards his entire career. He's a very underrated runner.

Carden was very good. He honestly did have the benefit of having guys wide open, but hewas smart and a curate and took what the defense gave him

I didn't like the late hits, but I think it was just frustration setting in. I was very impressed with a couple ECU players that seem they may play in Sunday. Hardy? #56? Also, you bastards took that WRer from us and he killed us in the red zone.

He will be drafted. Size will keep him out of the early part of draft though.

Hieneke will make every team he faces look bad on defense. It will however be very interesting to see what happens at Maryland. They have much more talent up front and more speed at the corners than we do. Regardless..He is a fine player..I take nothing from his performance last night. I do find it interesting that folks are not giving Carden that same accolades as Hieneke. This morning he is 2nd in NCAA passing yardage and threw for an 85% completion ratio with zero turnovers. Not shabby IMO

That's about right. I've said for 3 years now that our front 7 is slow with the exception of a couple of outside linebackers. Our secondary is always having to cover for 10 seconds or better. Not easy to do. We did find some blitzes that worked last night, but didn't run many and didn't stay in lanes a good bit. Still, Heinicke is better overall than Case Keenum from Houston. Throws it just as well, but better athlete. As good as Cato and probably better just because he's much calmer.

Who knows for sure...I do think his size will hurt him from an NFL perspective but he has "it" and he will get a chance to prove himself. There are a lot of great college QBs that do not get drafted or do not go until the very late rounds....So we will see.

Case in point: Case Keenum of Houston. That guy held a lot of the NCAA passing records and I don't think that he even got drafted.
