Thanks TripleA. My comments to your notes in bold.

I knew the BB TV package was solid, but the TV exposure for FB is amazing - 90% of all games will be shown nationally?

But in BB, MEMPHIS and Louisville will be in a majority of the network national TV games. As I recall, the CBS 12 game deal requires 6 of those games be inter-conference. So we can anticipate MEMPHIS-UL, UL-UConn, Temple-MEMPHIS, Cincy-UL, MEMPHIS-UConn, and UL-Temple to be those games. CBS will then show 6 OOC games basically involving those same 5 teams. I only hope the Gonzaga-MEMPHIS game is on CBS because the Ok St game is a Tuesday night as is the Florida game in NYC. Both of those should be on ESPN, though.

I suspect the AAC tourney will be Thursday through Sunday. ESPN will carry the first three days and ABC will broadcast the championship game that Sunday. They also will cross their fingers and hope it is the TIGERS vs Cards.

I had FORGOTTEN about this item from the sale of the Big East name and C-7 departure:

The league has all but approved the split of revenue, an estimated $100 million of exit and entry fees and NCAA basketball credits, Aresco said. He declined to reveal the breakdown of the revenue shares, though it is likely the three incumbent schools — USF, UConn and Cincinnati — will take a larger share of the pot than the newcomers.

"We made a fair and equitable distribution plan for the realignment money and the units that have been left behind," Aresco said. "Everybody is very happy with it. . . . All we're really doing here is ratifying it."

Once more, for the record, my position on this $100mm split is:
- lawyers get $20mm
- AAC office gets $7mm
- UConn is THE remaining ORIGINAL member, they get $20mm
- USF and Cincy joined in 2003, they each get $15mm
- Temple joined in 2012, they get $4mm and pay no entry fee for full membership
- MEMPHIS, UCF, SMU, and Houston each get $3mm and pay no entry fee in July 2013
- ECU, Tulsa, and Tulane each get $2mm and pay no entry fee in July 2014
- Navy gets $1mm and pays no entry fee in July 2015

My adjustments to your post:

1. CBS gets first choice for 12 APPEARANCES by AAC teams. They can pick 6 AAC in-conference games, 12 AAC OOC home games, or any combo in between, totaling no more than 12 appearances by AAC teams.

Totally cool. For 2013-14, Louisville and MEMPHIS will get most of the CBS appearances - including at least ONE of their two conference matches.

2. The AAC tourney will be held Wednesday through Saturday. For 2014, the #7/10 and #8/9 seeds will play the first day. The rest of the tourney will be a typical 8-team bracket.

Yeah, the attendance for SM vs USF and Rutger vs Houston will be minimal at the FEF. But after that....packed house. Imagine the atmosphere of a Friday night semi-final of Louisville vs UConn and MEMPHIS vs Cincinnati. SERIOUSLY, THAT ROCKS THE HOUSE!!

3. Details not released, but it's a 60/40 split of $100M, old schools vs. new schools. UConn, UC and USF get $20M each. New schools get $40M to divide, with Temple getting slightly more, the 2013 entrants getting the next largest amount, then Tulsa and ECU getting smaller amounts, and Navy the least.

The total pot was approximately $110M. The lawyers and the league office split up the remaining $10M. The earlier reports of higher #s for these 2 groups were reportedly incorrect.

All payments will be dispersed over a 4-5 year period.

The $2.5M entrance fee from each new school is included as part of that $110M total, so the amount of cash each receives is essentially reduced by that amount.

No worries; it's ALL good.

The lawyers and conference office split $10mm.

Only Temple doesn't owe any entry fees (I think), so they'll get the most cash after Connecticut, USF, and Cincinnati take the $60mm.

$40mm divided among Temple and new entrants should still come out along these lines:
Temple ($7mm)
MEMPHIS, UCF, SMU, UH ($2.5mm cash each PLUS the $2.5mm waived entry fee)
Tulane, ECU, Tulsa ($1mm cash each PLUS the $2.5mm waived entry fee)
Navy ($2.5mm waived entry fee)

When Veazey or Aresco say that X% of games will be on "National" TV, does that include ESPN3?

No, apparently, if what has been reported in the media and posted so far on boards is accurate. They are talking ESPN or ESPN2, with a few games on ABC, plus the "up to 12" or whatever on CBS.

This is supposedly the one thing so far that went in our favor: The exposure on national TV. It is reportedly much better than the current BE TV deal,
which we will operate under for this coming football season only. And it blows away our former CUSA exposure. Although the AAC money turned out to be G5, rather than P5 levels, due to all the defections, the exposure is great.

The AAC, in its negotiations, asked NBC for a certain number of OTA games, plus the rest on NBCSN, which has a reach of about 80M+ homes. When ESPN matched the lowball money offer, they also had to match the exposure offer. Someone posted that the contract actually specifies cable systems with at least 70M homes. That eliminates CBSSN, CSS, and a host of Fox regional cable systems. I think it eliminates ESPNU and ESPNews, too.

Now, the remaining games not covered under the 63% basketball and 90% football clauses, will likely wind up on some of those lesser channels, including perhaps ESPN3. No way to tell just yet.

Remember, though, this deal won't start until basketball season in November. The first FB TV season will be worse, although our bowl ties will be much better.

As a program, if we had to choose at this point, money or exposure, I think I'd go with the type of exposure this TV contract offers. Broad, national exposure brings so many other possibilities with it, on and off of the field. It's presents a great, long term opportunities for both Memphis and the conference. Just have to take advantage and get some nice wins.

That's kinds of what I was thinking. Plus it would have been additional revenue. Oh well...that's water under the bridge.

I have read several articles online the past few days and each writer has deferred to "The American" when talking about the AAC. It looks like the commissioner will get his wish on what he wants it to be known as. Just wait for the logo.

I have seen more articles headlined "AAC" than "The American" and I am confident that regardless of what Aresco wants, "AAC" is going to get plenty of use in the future. Easier to say and write, plus it sounds more like a college athletic conference.

Agreed, plus, when I hear The American, I see this:

When it comes to AAC vs. The Generican, the choice is clear.
