Unfortunately, no.
NIU was tied for second with West Virginia behind Akron in men's soccer (eight schools with affiliate members WVU, Hartwick and Florida Atlantic), and then the Huskies lost the post-season tourament title match to Akron.
Huskie women's volleyball was second in the MAC West Division and lost the conference post-season tournament title match to Bowling Green to finish second.
The season before (fall of 2011) was when we won in those two sports along with football. Regrettably, we have yet to be even remotely considered contenders in any other sports in the last half decade.
When the MAC took us back into the league, one of the reasons cited was because of the strength of our total sports program. We basically had been dominant -- as in multiple league championships --- in the Mid-Continent and even Midwestern Collegiate conferences when it came to women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's tennis, and softball, not to mention NCAA berths for men's basketball in the Mid-Continent (under Molinari) and the MCC (under Hammel).
Yep, thats what I meant. 2011.

Be careful, what goes around comes around and at one time NIU was the laughing stock of the MAC for football. We will revisit the depths again some day and ya know what; someday our basketball program will rise again. I do not support kicking anyone out of the conference, particularly a school that supported allowing NIU back in when we needed their support.
I didn't realize EMU was in our corner when we wanted back into the MAC. Regarding expansion, I like adding WKU and Arkansas St., but not so sure about ULaLa. Think about travel budgets.
But the bigger question, as mentioned in earlier posts, .....how many NIU fans will travel to these games??
Ark St could end up being a new rival for NIU. These 3 teams were bowl teams last year so it's not like adding Umass for FCS. It's too bad they could create a north and south division if more southern teams were in the mix. Would cut down on travel expenses

ULL was brutal until the past two seasons. Their first 10 seasons in the Sun Belt (2001-2010) they were 44-73 overall. I'm not saying they wouldn't beat the hell out of EMU, UMASS, etc. right now...but it's not like they've been a top non-aq program.
And army was a contender before the million years ago it's about the now and who is doing well and what school is able to market!
ULL is changing a lot of things with facilities and has a bright future and also ark st
I say go after

How about Southern Miss, Ark St and LA Tech for now, grab a fourth when UMASS calls in or out.

Those four would be a great addition to the MAC. If all four want to join, give UMass their notice (under the the MAC/UMass contract, UMass can be given a term contract of not less than two years).

So Miss is NOT leaving CUSA for the MAC before 2017. The exit fee for CUSA is too high to move laterally and the current MACs TV money is 88% less.
The only way this happens...
CUSA would have to lose a few bowls
The MAC would have to negotiate a much better TV contract for 2017 with CUSA or better money.
USM would have to go undefeated and not get an access bowl while a MAC team does.

Home attendance for Ark st was a tad over 26k. ULL a little over 23k. WKU 17k. Adding teams from the south would continue to help in recruiting

MAC should add WKU, MTSU, and AKS. Also get UMass all in.

MTSU = Midd Tenn?
If so then Midd Tenn is now in CUSA and it would not make financial sense.

I disagree with the rival part, their best team ever we beat pretty handily. Unfortunately, I would take a side like most Toledo fans in our rivalry. We are like 7-1 against them all time, and I don't think they would be as good in the MAC.

But, that was also one of NIU's best teams ever. They would be better than EMU, UMASS, Akron, and Buffalo. Playing them would make a better SOS, and thats why I would welcome stAte, ULL, and WKU into the MAC.

Yeah I get that. I dont think it would be a rivalry either, but people would still look forward to the game since (as of now) both teams are good.

could apply the same concept re: EMU to NIU football ten years ago...or NIU bball currently

Any immediate move the MAC makes should center around 1.) Getting rid of EMU or at least forcing them to drop football 2.) Forcing UMass all sports. Their value to the conference is on the hoops side and really doesn't do the MAC much good when hoops play elsewhere.

They did play 2 FCS teams that year.
I said .500 in conference play. They were 4-4 in the MAC.
While others may believe MAC teams are in the FCS, that is not the case.
Gotchya.
LOL I didn't know until my SO year (2000) that NIU was in FBS.
I don't think I did either. To my dad's distress, I'm not even sure I knew what a down was. I'd love to see the look on his face if I went back in time and told him we'd be attending the Orange Bowl in 13 years.

Does this make it more likely that we pick up Arkansas St. et al. I would love UMass all in with a big buyout, but frankly a North-South MAC sounds very functional, especially for FBall scheduling. Plus a MAC reaching out east just helps keep us in the shadow of the B10, heading South gives us a unique footprint...
Either way I hope we drop the "mid" and become the American Conference. (Barring the whoever 12 getting there first)
