How dare I work for honest pay...what am I thinking!?
You don't have to though. Just sit back, relax, and let someone else's honest pay cover it.
Yeah, you can sure live large on 200 bucks worth of food stamps.
Imagine how much more it'd be if you could just steal more from productive society to give to the unproductive.

LOL at you accusing me of spin for using your exact words, after mangling ODUSMitty's words (where he didn't say anything about "students, elderly, and poor"). Not many students I have known are dependent on the gov't.

Twice now you misquoted and spun what he said. "Generationally-dependent". These are people who by and large choose to feed off a host. The definition of parasite.

Smitty's operative words were "generationally dependent". That wouldn't include students who when they graduate, should move off the dependent list. Also doesn't include the elderly as they move into the Medicare ranks after a lifetime of working.
Too many of the poor however, are among the "generational" ranks. They are born to parents on the government teat and they themselves continue the welfare life by making crappy choices in their own lives. These are the ones Smitty has a problem with...........and so do I.

To be honest, if any president took that power I'd be totally against it.

Care to respond? Why don't we let them take the money directly from others? Why must we pay someone to do it for them?

The money cutting power just pertained to the current $85 billion and nothing more. Still, obama's own party struck it down.

They act like it is the end of the world to cut a fraction of US gubment spending in one year while President Barry increased it 100% in one year.

I made my point and targeted the group of Americans that do nothing but live off of other's labors. How any fool could interpret my post to include students, elderly, and those recently unemployed is not my concern.
But, yes, I loathe those that won't, while feeling sympathy for those that can't. It is too damned comfortable in this country to not do a damned thing but take from others and breed more that pass that tradition down to the next generation of tapeworms. F them, and the liberal machine that takes my money to support their existence. We pay the bills and are demonized in the process.

RE: What does it say about America?
I do think maybe we demonize the folks on welfare perhaps a bit unfairly. The system is set up to KEEP people dependent on it. When someone on welfare can't take a job paying $35,000 a year without losing money to the combination of increased taxes and reduced benefits, then the poor are trapped. Until we address that, the rest of this is just kidding ourselves.

RE: What does it say about America?
No argument here, Owl. That's why I recommend that the entitlement class be capped at goverment support at a level (for all benefits) of 75% of a 40-hour workweek of minimum wage. It should "suck more" to be poor and unemployed vs being poor and poorly employed. And no increase in benefits for adding more little bastard children to the family - responsibility has to start somewhere. Until there is incentive to move up and fend for themselves, all animals (including humans) will gravitate towards what is easiest. We need to remove that crutch so jobs now filled by illegals become desirable to the parasite class.

Folks, nothing is going to change any of this. We are toast, 50-60 years of handouts and "progression" has ruined what this country is supposed to be about. The only, and I mean only thing that will correct the pattern is a total collapse reset. IIRC Friedman called it wiping the slate clean.

I agree that we do demonize people on welfare too much. It should be our responsibility to ensure that people should get necessities if they really need them and deserve them.
I know someone that had to take early retirement that is just barely making it. Actually has no heat or hot water. But is too infirmed to really work. Could only make a little money per year or would lose a dollar for every two dollars they make in wages. This should not be the case.
