He uses NIU resources (phones likely office computer and supplies) to run his rental property business. Some of them are in DeKalb and are section 8 (low income) properties which have a higher than average crime rate.
His kids work at NIU despite there being a rule that they cant.
His daughter has received a ton of out of the ordinary raises even while all others have a pay freeze.
Many people under him keep getting in legal trouble involving NIU. Even if he is not involved (which most doubt) it shows how bad of a manager he is to have all of these issues.

Not excusing whatever may have happened afterward, but I imagine any damage he may have done is outweighed by his department's performance on that day.
Most people do not know that NIU Campus Police are BETTER TRAINED than the Illinois State police. The requirements to even be an NIU officer are stricter than most city police departments.
NIU police handled 2/14 WAY better than any other police department could have. At that time Chief Grady was a Godsend for NIU and the students.
I do not know what has happened since, but on 2/14 NIU was lucky to have him and his very well trained department.
Like I said...don't know what has happened since but if he needs to go then so be it.
The ISP Academy program is 10 weeks (400 hours). Do the NIU cops get more training than that?

Ultimately it looks to me like NIU has a massive failure of organizational ethics and compliance. There are a lot of people doing good things and committed to doing the right thing. But there are clearly people not on board with that and some possible inconsistencies in how rewards and discipline are meted out.
Does NIU even have a central compliance and ethics program?
In the absence of strong messages about ethics people can lose their way or be swayed by a go along to get along culture.

I expect EW to take the same road when/if the time comes. I'm sure nothing will happen until well after the Grady situation is resolved. The last thing NIU needs is two high profile race discrimination allegations at the same time.

If I get fired, can I use the old, fat, lazy, bald-headed, white guy excuse to sue? We are definitely in the minority. I have built-in age and disability discriminations going for me. If I can convince them that I am totally screwed up sexually (not hard to prove), I can also throw in the sexual discrimination card.

Agreed the Ethics committee should only answer to the BOT.

I thought we only deal with NIU ATHLETICS at this site. I didn't think we got into politics here. How have the coffee fund people been treated?

All matters directly relating to NIU are discussed.
As for the coffee fund people...All have been verbally tarred and feathered...equally.

He may have handled 2/14 OK, but essentially framing someone for rape negates any positives.

You nailed that one. You can throw any race bais out, becasue they are totally different matters. You can not compare Coffee Fund to Rape.

I didn't think rape was that big of a deal, according to the republican party. If, Grady framed someone for rape he should be let go. Its funny that people think Peters is a saint, yet he has been in charge during NIU's darkest days. If, Eddie is so bad, its hard to believe that, Peters didn't know what he's been up to. I think at NIU there is plenty of bad apples, besides EW! I think many here give Peters a pass because he likes sports.

I'd be willing to bet that Peters would have loved to have gotten rid of EW. Sometimes it's not so easy for various reasons. Peters has bosses, too.

Two questions: Was Grady treated differently than the coffee fund folks? What happened to the police officer charged with sexually assaulting a student?

The police officer was immediately fired.
http://www.rrstar.com/news/x1156348817/S...University
The case was dropped after "it emerged that an investigator at the NIU police department failed to reveal statements from friends of the accuser who claimed that she and the officer were involved in a consensual relationship."

so far, there are NO specifics regarding the EW tenure other than some borderline racist rants............what has he done to upset so many people? if the charges about his kin are true, whose responsibility it is to rectify such inequities? sounds like folks have an ax to grind with no real facts to back it up...wtf is going on? why are people so upset with this guy?

My sense of Williams from my time on and around campus has been that he's a guy who's been around long enough to have collected wide sets of supporters and detractors. That he is often a man that things happen in spite of, not because of, and that he is not a man of any particular vision. There are certainly people who hold his connections against him. He's also easy to see as a reminder of old racial tensions on campus that are themselves rooted in the nasty history of racism in Chicago especially in the Daley I era.
