I met the guys from big ugly. Great group of guys and they definitely have hopes for a couple big beers. One of their flagships will be a russian imperial stout which makes me excited. Last I heard, they still don't have their permit to distribute beer from their facility and it has something to do with the zoning of their building. They are working on that, but it may be a tasting room only brewery until that gets fixed.
I'm not sure when Stone will make an announcement about their east coast brewery but I'm really hoping we can get it here in Norfolk! It's between Norfolk, Richmond, or Columbus, OH.
I just brewed a belgian stout with chocolate and chipotles on Tuesday. Hopefully it turns out palatable. I think spicy/pepper beers might be a more popular thing this year. Ballast point, new holland, rogue, terrapin and founders all put out large production beers this past year using assorted peppers.

Sounds tasty. Admittedly, I've been slightly obsessed with pepper beers since I tried New Belgium's Lips of Faith series Cocoa Mole. So, please give us a heads up if this hits the taps on 24th street.
And speaking more to your point on the popularity surge in pepper beers, I stopped by Big Ugly the other day. The owners were nice enough to show us around, good dudes with a pretty cool tasting room set-up. The brewmaster mentioned he was going to make a bourbon barrel Russian Imperial Stout with peppers (I think he said ghost peppers). My mouth began watering immediately. Looking forward to those guys joining the beer scene in Hampton Roads.

Has anyone tried the "Treaty of Ghent" collaboration brew? I need to get my hands on a bottle this week (does anyone know where I can get it?). Also, I think O'Connor's is releasing the Belgian Chocolate Chipotle Stout this week. I'm looking forward to that, as well.
Treaty of ghent is available at O'Connors right now and will be available at bottle shops and restraunts around ghent very shortly. The belgian stout is releasing Saturday at O'Connors.
Thanks. I'm going to try to figure out a way to stop by the brewery, but if I can't, by bottle shops, you mean places like Total Wine and Grape & Gourmet, right?

It's supposed to be only available in Ghent so the total wine on 21st might be it.
Thanks. I couldn't wait and I didn't want to chance not being able to get there because of snow, so I stopped by the brewery this afternoon and picked up a couple of bottles for our next snow day.
