Fellini's has both the Red Ale and the Black IPA on tap. Tried both before the UNCW game and enjoyed them.

El guapo is coming out in bottles in March. O'Connors is awaiting label approval before they can sell it. Also, their seasonals will be sold in bombers(22 oz bottles) as well as on tap.

I work like right up the street from that. I'll be there a lot. I already go to Beach Brewing Co. quite a bit. I think this is great news.

Agreed, this is fantastic news. I've only had Green Flash's imperial IPA and their red IPA. The imperial was decent but I thoroughly enjoyed the hop head red.

Edit: I forgot about their Saison Diego, another quality beer.

I had a growler filled with one of their IPAs from The Birch. It was tasty. I read the rumors about the brewery opening in VEER.

Green flashes west coast ipa is fantastic. Other cool news is that once they're built, they will be coming out with a va beach series only available locally.

RE: Official Beer Tread
For any northern VA monarch fans, there will be Norfolk beers on tap in Alexandria tomorrow night and Thursday night. Tomorrow is the VA tap takeover at Vitrtue feed & Grain. Tons of great VA breweries there that night including all of the local ones. Thursday is Norfolk tap night at Del Ray Pizzeria. Smartmouth and O'Connors will be on tap there. This will be the first time either of those breweries will be tapped in Northern VA.

If you are a real beer geek. The Craft Brewers Conference is in DC all week. So there will be tons of bars tapping random beers from across the country.

I just tried Great Dismal Black IPA and it was a very good beer. Probably my favorite from O'Connor.

That's one of my fav's as well. If you like that one check out Xingu Black Beer. The only place I ever order it is at TWest but it's my go to when we have tacos.

RE: Official Beer Tread
There are positives and negatives to it. The positives being that there is a ton of beer to try. It's fun if you go with the right people who like beer. Negatives being that its super crowded and the lines are long. This may be fixed this year because they have expanded to two days instead of one. It's only 4 hours long each day though.

$25 is cheap for the amount of beer you'll get. I think each taste is about 6 oz. My advice is if you want to try a bunch of new beers for a decent price, go ahead and try it.

The lines are crazy long no matter what day. More entertainment would be nice. You just mainly stand in line and drink.

As a young guy who hasn't had the chance to try much variety in beer, I would have to say that today's beer festival in Norfolk was definitely worth my $30. I now know what I really enjoy, what I don't like so much, and what I still have left to explore.

As for the festival itself, I was one of the 'lucky' ones who did not purchase tickets ahead of time. Will Call ended up being more expensive ($25 each + convenience fees + tax = $63) than just walking up (2 tix $30 each = $60), and the Will Call line was much slower in comparison. Good thing to keep in mind in the future. It was a great experience, though.

RE: Official Beer Tread
A few highlights from yesterday's beer festival:

1. Firestone walker had Union Jack, double jack, and Wookey jack all available.
2. Stone had a cask of sublimely self righteous ale with Citra hops.
3. Beach brewing had sea devil imperial stout that went through a hopback of coffee beans and vanilla.
4. Sixpoint had spice of life with New Zealand hops (either wakatu or riwaka), but the volunteer pouring had no clue.
5. The rain held off until the very end after they stopped pouring beer.

I'm sure you guys can tell I'm a huge beer geek.

Today is day 2. I highly recommend going if you are into this type of thing.

RE: Official Beer Tread
I had another trip around Total Wine last night, I'm trying to get through as many pilsners and lagers as possible before the fall and winter set in, then I can go back to some good old ales and bitters.

They have a funky little German section that's great for lighter beers, although the Czech part is rather lacking, the standard Budvar and Urquell, good stuff but I've had it too many times and I always like to try something new. I intend to get through some of the Eastern European, Russian and Asian beers that they sell by the bottle, some of them look awesome. Later in the year I'll start through the Belgian beers and that'll be interesting. I love Rochefort 10, but I really need to be in the mood for it.

On another (and much less snobby) note, Small's BBQ on the corner of 27th and Hampton had dollar PBRs and Rolling Rocks, I think it's to draw in the customers for the Q, they might have run out but that's been my go-to place after work for the past few weeks. Occasionally they have good deals on draught beers too.

RE: Official Beer Tread
For those interested, the Beach Ambassadors and 80/20 burger bar will be hosting a local battle of the beers competition on Saturday August 24th from 1-5. Tickets are $30 in advance from 80/20 or $35 at the door. O'connor, smartmouth, beach, back bay, and the new young veterans will all be serving beer. Each brewery will be bringing 2 beers and they will most likley be something new. The public will vote on which beer they like best along with a panel of "celebrity" judges.

RE: Official Beer Tread
I don't know if anyone is coming to Richmond to watch us get smashed by Richmond and VCU, but you can get smashed at some local breweries before you go to the game...

Hardywood will have their "perfect 100" Gingerbread Stout out by then, and Center of the Universe will have just celebrated their first anniversary. Hardywood is located close the diamond, and COTU is off 95 in Ashland, near the Bass Pro Shop. COTU is known more for it's pale ale and ipa, while Hardywood seems to have more porters/stronger beers. You can't really go wrong with either of them. There have been about 5 or 6 breweries to open up in the area the last couple years...I hope this boom doesn't fizzle out anytime soon.

Oh, and if you really want a treat....you have to go to Mekong. Best beer bar in america for the second year in a row. As a bonus, the food is awesome!

This made me laugh.

Not an accurate list but it made me laugh 03-lmfao. He put yuengling at the near top of the worst list which is not true. I am not from pa and i don't take pride in it but yuengling is certainly half decent beer which should atleast be near the end of the list not the beginning of the list. Gave me a good laugh reading the list and comments.
