Does the NCAA conference set up have one of these?

Will they NBE be able to lure more C-USA programs away, or has the conference been weakened to the point that their top remaining programs look for stability in C-USA or the MAC?
Good question. Wish I had a good answer. The NBE what ever the name would have 2 advantages, First it can still cherry pick teams, and is not yet locked in with a TV deal. Cusa/Sun/Mac have advantage of not needing to rebuild a new wheel.

the nBE certainly doesn't think so. they did everything except kidnap Boise's president to get them in, and now they are talking about tossing in every western school that will fit in order to placate them.
when the catholics steal the "big east" moniker, they should name the newly nameless conference "boise state's flaccid dork", since that was the single focus of their attention for so many months.

The Boise folks would disaagree. The reason they lost Boise is because the BE had no focus out west. The BE added one western team and then added in succession Temple, Memphis, ECU, and Tulane. The Tulane pick was the backbreaker that told them that the Big East was never going to get serious out west. Now, the BE current efforts out west are too little to late.

please don't misunderstand, I would be pissed off if I was boise, too. they were the hot blonde with a massive rack that the BE used to tempt the other victims into the impending collapse. with boise in, the whole thing could be made to seem (semi)rational.
the nBE isn't an athletic conference, it's a massive fraud; a bill of goods that has complicated (if not out and out jeopardized) the future of a dozen or so respected college athletic programs.
the bastards (the conference officials, not the schools, mind you) should be horse whipped.

Spin will come from all camps if BSU decides to back out. IMHO the BE tried hard to get either BYU, AFA, Fresno St and/or UNLV to accept an invite but they ran into a stone wall. Inviting Tulane looked like an act of desperation. No offense meant to Tulane fans, an invite to UTEP would have also looked like desperation.
Rumor now has it that Boise St is telling both the BE and the MWC that they want to keep the tv rights to all their home games. If that rumor is true then they are really pushing their leverage and we will see who goes where soon enough.

Boise can leave if that ESPN article is true. They aren't worth that much. That's arrogance of the highest order.

I think it shows the MWC is more desperate than the Big East. If MWC loses more teams to nBE they are toast, and they know it.

They have to be. They are the WAC if they lose this battle and could potentially die as a league. C-USA brilliantly locked the MWC out of Texas and now they have to find a way to make this work or they have almost nowhere to turn for new members. They have Idaho, NMSU, maybe Texas State, and maybe the 2 Montana schools. That's a small number of options. So they can either win this battle and be the 6th best league or potentially not even exist.

The problem the MW has is that there are not many replacement teams in their footprint. The eastern conferences all have plenty of teams in the footprint (ok, sure, there are no USC's left, but there are at least enough teams to guarantee everyones survival).

I think since the NBE is going to overflow with TV contract money, every team in the conference should pledge the Broncos $1 million for 10 years to show they are truly committed to making it work, also they should help help with an additional subsidy to get their BB program up to NBE standards. I'm thinking another $1 million a year would do it.

For the millionth time, the Montana's are not moving. Montana is happy where they are and Montana State is not ready to move. If anything I think we see Idaho move back to the Big Sky for everything. I just don't see any conference taking Idaho, unless its the Sun Belt for football only.

my secret inside source* tells me that the nBE is negotiating with Tokyo University for all sports. their women's kabuki team is said to be world class.

Then you are just hammering my point home that the MWC is much more desperate for Boise, because if they lose this battle they have almost no replacement options.

I feel confident in saying the answer to that question is likely No. Why would we want to pay CUSA 7 Million to exit and another 5 Million to enter whats left of that league? Why? Why would anybody do that with all the schools that have left and are leaving? We are all grouped the same now. I would see no reasonable benefit to doing that.
I like the idea of staying where we are and building something with ODU, Southern Miss and Charlotte etc. If ECU wants to come back and be a part of it, that's fine. If not, then that's okay too.
Good post. I concur.

But what about the Autobid that ECU fans keep throwing up. The BigLeast has an autobid....in basketball. This is coming from a fan base that loves to point out that football drives the bus and basketball is an after thought, until they win or it benefits them. Becuase we all know that noone is coming for the AQ status anymore.

Montana state will move up before montana will frankly and they are working to ward that but are not ready yet.
Utep, Tulsa, and Texas state all have shown interest in the MWC. Worst case you raid the sun belt and invite the Ragin Cajuns who are actually pretty good with Texas state
