From Pete Thamel, SI senior writer...

Three sources told me today that Boise's depature from the Big East is inevitable. “I would be shocked if it didn’t happen.”
Looks like most of us are going to end up back together in some form if this ends up going down.
NBE is probably tired of their crap and is kicking them out, they are probably better off without them and their small market.

TV contract probably just doubled with this move.
Mountain West restructures deal with CBS Hopes To Lure Boise Back

I wouldn't be surprised if Houston & SMU go with Boise & San Diego St back to MWC and maybe UTEP or Tulsa

A lot of chuckles about the Big East's misfortunes, but if this goes down this is really bad news for C-USA. Could result in getting raided by 2 leagues.
Right, but in this situation wouldn't Marshall, UAB, and USM join the Big East? Status quo.
ESPN is now reporting on it as well...

Is it really a departure if there was never an arrival?

There is another link on the same CBS page;

Colorado State and UNM trying to form new conference, talking to
both BYU and BSU.

Wait.... If Boise, SD St, Houston, SMU all go to MTN West... Why would any CUSA team go to BE at that point? Knowing UConn and Cincy are short timers? ECU, Memphis, Tulane, USF will draw who from C-USA?

Maybe, maybe not. I don't think it can be assumed who would be added with the markets only matter garbage. My opinions on UAB are well known, but I would hope that USM and Marshall would be added if all this goes down.

I'd hope LaTech would get an invite as well, but probably UNT & Rice to replace the Dallas & Houston "markets"

Where did UCF and Temple go in your scenario? As for your question would USM rather be in a league with the schools in C-USA or Tulane, Memphis and ECU? Would Marshall rather be in a league with the schools in C-USA or ECU, UCF, and USF? Would ODU rather be in a league with the C-USA schools or ECU? Would Charlotte rather be in C-USA or with ECU and Memphis?
Hell...It would be better if we all could just have a mulligan and keep CUSA in its current form. We were starting to develop a pretty good 12 team all sports league and the rivalries were growing. Sad to think it was all blown up for the cluster that is the Big East.

Almost makes sense for a group of schools to start a new conference in the east and let those guys in the west do their own thing.

Really just tired of it all at this point..

I knew I was missing somebody. But couldn't think of who. I agree with you on all those points. However, they can pay nice exit fee and join you, or stay put in C-USA and force you to come back. If our exit fees were Sun Belt like, I could see any team leaving to join that group, but not paying anything substantial.

Problem is do you think a 16-18 team C-USA would pay more than a 10-12 team unnamed league? I don't particularly think so. If adding all 6 would allow for a renegotiation and made the money worth it then sure, but I don't know that FOX would pay enough to even keep the payout per school the same.
(12-21-2012 08:58 PM)lmckay92 Wrote: [ -> ]Right, but in this situation wouldn't Marshall, UAB, and USM join the Big East? Status quo.

I feel confident in saying the answer to that question is likely No. Why would we want to pay CUSA 7 Million to exit and another 5 Million to enter whats left of that league? Why? Why would anybody do that with all the schools that have left and are leaving? We are all grouped the same now. I would see no reasonable benefit to doing that.

I like the idea of staying where we are and building something with ODU, Southern Miss and Charlotte etc. If ECU wants to come back and be a part of it, that's fine. If not, then that's okay too.
Big East left overs could join forces with the MAC and Sunbelt, that would make a decent regional leagues for the individual schools.
