Smaug's $0.02
This is going to be short, because after a complete face-plant like that, there isn't much to say.
The Good
I ran a 5K at the Botanical Gardens with the smokin' hot Mrs. Smaug and the little Smaugs yesterday morning. Littler Smaug scored a third place ribbon in her age group. Very cool.
Tailgating was, as always, a blast. The best part of game day. It sure went to hell in a handbasket quick after that, though.
The bad
We all watched the same game, right? Senior Day. A rivalry game. We never showed. How does that happen? I saw it with Watson, I saw it with Callaway. I'm surprised at McGee. I think (hope) that this was a learning experience for our young coach. We'd won two, were playing well, were starting to feel good about the direction of the program, and Whammo! Complete collapse.
I don't know what this week's practice and preparation were like, but however subtle the differences were during the week, they were glaring as hell yesterday.
Is JP so bad, or McGee just a sadist to let Brown stand out there and get killed over and over again? I get building character, but to what end, if at the end of the day you're taking him off the field with a broom and a dust pan?
We didn't block. We didn't tackle. We didn't throw. We didn't catch. Hell, we've been special teams demons this year, and got owned there, too.
Bad, bad, bad.
I've sat in the sky boxes exactly twice. Both against Memphis. Both losses. This one is on me.
The Ugly
There was a real ass-kicker of a hill right at the start of the 5K, and the course was a double loop, so it kicked my ass twice. I will definitely plan for it next time.
So, what does this mean, Barbara?
I'm making no predictions, but if McGee is worth his weight in salt, the Blazers come out with fire in their eyes against UCF. Having said that, there's a side of me that would like to see him start Joe Bento. I'd like to see him complete a pass to a teammate.
That's all I got. For now. I think.
