Here's my take:

McGee doesn't believe JP can help us get to where we need to be. He has decided (for whatever reason) that he doesn't want JP back next year. Our of respect for JP, I won't spectulate about why because I have no idea, but that message seems clear from my distant perch. So, McGee will not play JP no matter what.

I suspect that McGee won't publicly say anything negative about JP since he doesn't want to trash a kid in that way, but he clearly has permanently benched him.

Also, he may be looking at these games as a learning opportunity for AB. "When things get tough out there, I'm going to leave you in the fire and you're going to have to do what I've taught you to get out of it." (i.e. stop holding the ball so long, make the reads faster, and read the defense and make the right checks, etc.) This idea would be geared toward the future more than this year's results (not that he is trying to lose).

AB is seriously injured. Hard to learn or focus when you have at least one serious injury.
All the stuff you said about JP, I believe to be true as well.
Like I said in an earlier post, I guess that doesn't leave any options. But DAMN, it sucks for AB to playing in the condition he's in and I hope it doesn't leave long lasting physical problems.

Notice that I said McGee may be looking at these games as a learning opportunity. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I'm not there everyday to see how things are going. I thought we should have seen JP Saturday, but if JP is unacceptable as a QB, then why not let the senior Joe Bento lead the team on Senior Day, especially when it was clear that we were doomed in the 2nd half? I have no answer for that.

Dragon, I agree, when a player is not performing, let someone else give it a try. It isn't fair to the team(or fans) to leave AB in the game to "learn"
This goes for the defense, as well. If someone blows a play, if the D is giving up so many points that we have no way of getting back in the game, adjustments should be made

RE: Smaug's $0.02
The players need to learn to play for the coach and learn his system, and that is apparently JP's failing. The coach also needs to learn the players strengths and figure out how to best utilize them. If the coach can't see past his own ego to realize that he can use JP's strengths, then Coach McGee has some growing to do also.

After reading Drew's article, it is apparent that McGee wants to go in another direction.

As sucky as it feels to us, it is his call.

Sure, it is McGee's call. And he can recruit 21 robots for the other positions after the team decided the coach isn't trying to win because he is too stubborn to see his QB can't walk, and yet he still won't let JP play.

McGee has to be careful here. He can seriously #uck up everything he might have gained this year if he turns the team against himself. And it's obvious the defense didn't get off the bus.

I agree with that. We hired him to take us in a different direction. We weren't going to get there over night. Everyone needs to be patient and see if this year's struggles makes us a stronger team in years to come. If after 3 or 4 years, the plan hasn't work, then we get antsy for yet another new coach.

But stop with the hate JP talk or the ego talk. He has a plan and he is sticking to it. If he is as good as I think, this year will pay dividends down the road. Perry is a quick fix,but not the long term solution.

I don't think it's asking for a quick fix to want a healthy, ambulatory QB.

I'm no doctor, but watching Brown get hammered every other passing down and limping of the field is painful to watch.

I like McGee, and am still on the bandwagon, but for the life of me, I could see no good reason to have him out there in the fourth quarter Saturday.

If Memphis can abuse him like that, what's UCF going to do?

How can you explain leaving Brown in to get slaughtered ? How can you explain not letting Perry play, when both were considered relatively equal 6 weeks ago ? Our offense, with Brown at QB only ran about 8 or 9 base plays. Memphis' D knew what our guys were going to run when we lined up. McGee is either intent on keeping JP off the field, or is trying to get Brown killed, or both. Either way, I'll bet a steak dinner that JP's last game in a UAB uniform is next Saturday.

I completely understand wanting to change the way things are done, and getting Brown real-time game experience for next year and the next. I only hope that Brown is ambulatory by next August so that he can use that experience.

No matter what good I think McGee has done this season, I question what transpired in his head on Saturday. It was Watson-esque.

Many have expressed their opinion that JP will not be at UAB next season. Is it possible that BOTH will transfer this winter? Our last QB to transfer for more playing time did not find that at AL A&M. We will just have to wait to see how the "market" for transfers (from 3-9 schools) shapes up this winter.

Brown would go into next year as at least the #2 QB with an opportunity to be #1.

It doesn't look like JP has an opportunity to even be the #3 QB.

Not my job to explain it. My job is to support the team. It's fine you question him. And as long as its not Calloway-esque, I'm fine.

Which is funny because last year he outplayed Bryan at times, and Bryan was (is) a beast of a QB.
