RE: YouTube Video from Legion Field
I am really looking forward to our rivalry taking off. UAB has been a decent filler, and because of those two close games (where the officials handed them a win to split it 1-1) our two fanbases have really grown to hate one another. However, I (and many others) really see the UAB football program as being beneath Troy's, and I look forward to the Troy/USA game becoming the premier non-SEC rivalry of Alabama.

RE: YouTube Video from Legion Field
I expect a UAB fan to chime in soon to take offense to my comment about UAB football being beneath Troy football.
I'll go ahead and admit Troy basketball is currently beneath UAB basketball, so I'm not just trying to stir up trouble or anything. I am simply stating an opinion that is wide-spread based on past success and brand image.

On Sept.29 Troy will proceed to take USA to the woodshed and spank them like little girls. Cannot wait, I will be in Mobile to witness that good ole fashioned arse whipping. Until then we can be friends though, and hopefully after we can be friends

Hatred for another school/fanbase within a state that you realistically can play close=rival. UAB/Troy, USA/Troy, USA/UAB should ALL be playing each other and make them trophy games of some sort.
It can only benefit both programs from an interest standpoing if there are on field wars that lead to good clean battles on the field.
Of course if Auburn keeps Gene Chizik around much longer, they could become a rival.

Basketball season in Alabama is 1 month long (march) Football stories run year round. Had we not started up football in 1991 we'd still be where USA is now. I think Gene Bartow had great foresight to know that NCAA athletics would come to this and we're in a better place having started football 20 years ago than if we were trying to go at it now.If Gene were still in our Athletic Dept UAB football would be miles ahead of where it is now. He was a great leader. May he rest in peace.
I love how USA is celebrating beating us in the worst season in a decade of UAB basketball. There's a reason Mike Davis is now coaching elsewhere. CUSA was and is the better basketball conference. It's getting worse with the subtraction of Memphis State, but overall still miles ahead of the current roster of the SBC. Before someone gets offended when was the last time a SBC team got an at large bid to the NCAA's? That's all I mean. We have a better chance for success in CUSA than we would if we were in the SBC.

We should really get a three way battle going for the "Governor's Trophy" or something like that. It would be good for all three programs if you could get UAb to realize they need something like that to bring some excitement into their program.
They had tried to get a rivalry with Memphis going with the "Battle of the Bones" trophy, but obvously that is gone now with Memphis headed to the Big East.

Alabama would claim it along with their 403rd national title.
UAB and Memphis will forever be attached by Gene Bartow. Whether or not we play every year is up to the ADs but they will never cease to be our rival.
UAB and Troy is a great OOC game, but no one on our side looks at USA and says we must play USA in football. Alabama State would bring more fans to legion field.

TROY and USA will be huge in attendance for both schools...Probably over 30k each year.

RE: YouTube Video from Legion Field
What good is being a rival if you don't play??? How does that make either school any money or sell tickets to games and puts the fannies in the seats??? I guarantee that USA would sell more tickets and bring more fans to Birmingham then UTEP, and that is a conference game for you. UAb may want to seperate themselves from UA, but one thing you got from momma was the "We're better then you and don't need you" attitude.
I wasn't "celebrating" our victory over UAb, just pointing it out. But I am happy everytime we beat the boys from Southside.

I would imagine that Memphis will begin to consider UAB beneath them and not worthy of regular meetings.
Trust me. UAB has actually surprised me by continuing a series with USA after our Sun Belt Conference rivalry (which was a very good one) ended. On a related note, I forever curse former USA president Fred Whiddon for not accepting the CUSA invitation when offered at that conferences formation.

UAB does not have room at the moment to play Troy and south in football. As it stands today Troy is a much better draw and will be for some time.

You make room. Four OOC games a year, you play two within the state of Alabama every year no matter what. That gives you 7-8 games a year INSTATE every year no matter what, and the fanbase has familiarity with the two schools and will come out to watch.
I wouldn't call it the Governor's Trophy simply because the governor has his head planted up Saban's rectal cavity, but perhaps a trophy symbolic of Alabama (no jokes here) that works for the three programs. You have to think economically, this generates interest within your alums/students, it gives you two huge geographic rivals and will reduce your travel budget, which allows reallocation of those funds into other things.
The fact that you're willing to post about it, and act like you're better than the other teams, etc... is all the proof needed that the games should happen.

We play two pay games a year. That leaves Troy and one more game. That spot is reserved for Memphis. There is just no room at the inn for a school we have no football history with.

I agree 100% here. Since Auburn and Alabama won't play us, we should play each other. The three of us playing each other every season would become a big help to all of us in fan interest, attendance, and finances.
This season Troy has our best schedule in the history of Trojan football. We have 6 home games (including Miss State and Navy) and 2 road games IN the State. That is basically 8 home games, can't beat it.

Is Memphis on board with this??? I think they see Ole Mrs as there big out of conference game, not UAb.

With Memphis leaving for the Big East, Memphis is no longer going to be a OOC game. USA could grab that spot.
