RE: Nick Cattles?
Great points ER and others. I think it probably needs to start small, like a podcast. It could be as simple as getting interviews with as many ODU related guests as possible, I'm sure Jeff Jones, Bobby Wilder, Wood Selig and Kent Bazemore would agree to this. Imagine how popular an interview with Blaine Taylor would be? That could be a launching pad.
Then sites like this and others, odubleedblue.com could promote the interviews and eventually some stations may pick up an hour a day through the football and basketball seasons which provides tons of material to talk about.
Also it doesn't have to be all ODU all the time. I think it's a mistake to limit it to that. For instance yesterday Jeff Capel III went on a twitter rant defending Blake Griffin on why he is not soft. It's a very interesting topic and it's semi-ODU related.
I think it could work and I'd help as much as possible.

RE: Nick Cattles?
Radio stations want control and must protect themselves from liability. The Host would be under contract and guidelines would have to be followed. Again, radio stations want to protect their listeners and themselves.
If all you want to do is take callers, they already have something like that. If you want your host to be another Jim Rome, he had better have experience in radio, have overwhelming knowledge of sports, corroborate what comes out of his mouth and not offend anyone with baseless accusations. No one is going to lend you a mic if you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
ODU is a 94.1 client, The radio station will protect it's customer from what would be nothing more than a bitchfest program. 102.1 Fox Sports won't be swayed either. No one is going to allow a no holds barred free for all talk show to air on their station that they have no control of.
ODU wil deny you access to it's employees.
Stick to social media. This idea would never take off.

RE: Nick Cattles?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think VCU has a podcast and a radio show.
Not sure how critical they are of the program though but to be honest, they haven't had too much to be critical about lately while our program has all but collapsed.
I do agree though, the handling of the Taylor situation and the lack of insight from the media and radio let to a lot of fan discontentment......and rightfully so.
Wood Selig put his foot in his mouth yet again when he said he "fully supported Taylor" in the pilot and then fired him the next week. Dumb decision. This was never brought up in the paper or on radio shows but it absolutely should have been.
I do agree with burger boy about one thing, no one will give any host free reign over everything, sponsors and guests tend not to enjoy that. Sadly, the same business that keeps radio going is also the main limit on how good or exciting or edgy it can be.
Cattles is such a cookie cutter "sports media" type, he has zero interest in rocking the boat and sadly, that's exactly why he won't be canned any time soon.
