But seriously...by what possible metric could you possibly suggest that you have a better football program than Kentucky?

You've played three times total, were blown out the first two times and in the third game one of your best teams ever lost 14-3 to one of their worst teams ever.

In one game they sell more tickets than you do in an entire season.

Kentucky is not very good, perhaps you will even beat them this year(I don't think so, but it could happen) but get real, a better program?

Summed it up nicely. WKU does not have a better football program than UK. That's like saying MT has a better program than UT, or like FAU is better than the U.

No, not really. Do you want to start comparing UK to UF and UT? Gimme a break. UK is an embarrassment to the SEC.

I'd also have to agree. Over the past four years, Kentucky hasn't done much in the SEC, but they've still massed a better overall record over those years than WKU. An SEC program with a better overall record than a SBC program is going to be the better program hands down. UK has beaten 7 or 8 SEC teams over years. WKU hasn't beaten near that many Big 6 teams, and lost to UK last year, despite UK's 117th ranked offense.

Just my opinion. WKU is doing good things in their own right though. WKU's defense should be a big part of bowl eligibility this coming year.

Pretty much. I agree with everyone that wku is behind uk, I just think the gap is much smaller compared to other states (louisiana, Florida, bama, tenn, Georgia, and Texas)

No doubt. It's an advantage for you guys that you have one team to compete with, Kentucky, and they're a bottom of the barrel SEC team. I feel for Florida and Texas based teams, and Troy as well, having to deal with arguably the #1 program in college football, and somewhat recent NC Auburn.

Our attendance has also suffered with having the last 3 NCs in the state of Bama...

This year will be much different and well over the 20k average mark

If the U doesnt stay out of trouble theyll be at the bottom of the list soon.

With the problems that Miami is facing and will be facing, one simply can not put them in the top three in the state and until UFC beats Fiu, they go below us.

yeah. Now what?

I'd say Louisiana Tech is a better program than UL or ULM at this point. Though UL is on the rise and could over take them very soon. Tech's program is not as bad as many on here think. Just being real.

Tech has had more success playing against tougher competition. I understand UL is on the rise and they're doing some good things but they are not better than Louisiana Tech. I'm sure most people outside of UL fans would agree.

I never said we were better than Tech.. I put us as 2a and 2b... no particular order. Anyway I dont believe the title mentioned top football programs in your state over the last 20 years.. I assumed it meant right now.

I think the Cajuns beat Tech this year and last. IMO.

The title of the thread is best programs not best teams. While I realize that FIU beat UCF last year and might beat them again this year, I dont feel we have passed UCF yet in terms of being the better program. And I hope you arent serious about saying UM doesnt belong in the top 3 in the state. Things might change depending on how severe the sanctions are but right now there is no question The U is a top 3 program in the state of Florida.

I'd like to clarify that the question "who is a better team" relates solely to the present, whereas the question "who has the better program" relates to the overall quality of the recent past, in which three consecutive years or more is a pretty good barometer. Some people have some trouble understanding this. That isn't directed at anyone in particular, just something I've observed.

I agree. Sure, the U may have taken a fall from glory as of late - but it will return to top standards and in no way is UCF, USF, or F_U better than the U. History, IMO, plays a part in a school's strength, and the U's 5 national championships aren't exactly scrap metal in the junkyard.

Those stats include multiple years in which Tech and ULM did not play in D1A. Take out the seasons during which those two schools did not play in the highest division to get more accurate numbers.

------OH OK ---this gives a great up to date strength of the state's teams---Programs can change slowly or on a dime----What the Cajuns have done since the worst hire in the history of football (Baldwin) is to change slowly better with Bustle and quickly as a dime changed it upward in one year with HUD!!! Not only has it been an instant change but also one of a strong foundational and future commitment by boosters to the future!!! No doubt that a new administration has meant a huge directional philosophy toward athletics which has kicked up the rapid improvement in all area!!!!

If you think twelve more total wins and two little percentage points makes ulm a better program than ull, you're seriously high. I do think when you consider what each of you have accomplished at the fbs level, especially prior to 2011, you aren't that far apart, but fan support makes a tremendous difference and the Cajuns 2011 season has them pointed towards putting more distance between the two of you.

UL is 18-19
