RE: Baze
in regards to Baze I think of him as def more athletic than JV and even Frank, Lee and Loughton. Thats kind of how I view Neeley too, but he wasn't nearly the basketball player that those other guys are/were.
I would NOT say, however, that Baze is a better athlete than JV. I mean the guy won a Cy Young and MVP award in the same season.
Back to Baze's NBA potential - IMO he certainly is athletic enough to make a roster. its just going to take a front office and coach that think he can develop the other parts of his game that aren't up to NBA standards. I guess we'll see how it plays out. I'm excited for the kid.

There is only one way to settle this; an athletic decathlon.

Senior Frank = NCAA tournament, narrow loss to runner-up Butler
Senior Baze = Loss to Mercer in CIT, poor senior year
Being a better athlete is more than jumping.

Horrible logic, OD. Just because the TEAM was more successful in Frank's SENIOR YEAR (a one-year sample size?) does not mean he was a better athlete than Baze. You can make a few arguments that Frank is a better athlete..this is not a good one.

RE: Baze
Hah, this was a fun read. For fun...
Athleticism can be defined as, "the ability to use a variety of motor abilities (strength, power, speed, agility, coordination, stability, balance, etc.) to effectively and efficiently perform a wide variety of sporting actions."
So... to say one is more athletic than the other is subjective due to what physical skill or "the ability to effectively coordinate the use of specific sporting actions to accomplish a particular sports objective" you deem more worthy. The key is athleticism, meaning having the ability to perform a variety of actions with high precision and consistency at a high level. By the definition someone measures these things as sprinting, jumping, turning quickly, stability, balance strength, etc. By that definition Baze possibly possesses the most athleticism of anyone on the basketball or baseball team in my mind. I would love to see some of our wide receivers or db's match up with Baze in athleticism.

How about the year before, to make a 3 year evaluation? Still same result.
Part of being a good athlete is being a good TEAM leader. Baze was not.

Your logic is getting worse, I'm afraid. Being a great athlete and being a great team leader are two COMPLETELY different things. You can't judge a team's performance based on one person.

This argument makes ZERO sense. By your logic, Larsen could go to the NCAA tourney this year and that would make him a better athlete than Baze because his team went further in his senior year.
Loughton's team went to the NCAA tourney his junior year and struggled mightily his senior year, I don't think anyone A. question's his leadership because of that or B. thinks that says ANYTHING about his athleticism.

Ughughughghhhhh not memories of the Butler game!
I miss Baze already. I'll never forget him his redshirt year: Hype as anyone, always waving that towel, just excited to be a part of things. I hope he catches on somewhere. Would love a modern Monarch to root for in the league.

RE: Baze
I understand how you Zone people work... gang up on somebody and ridicule their OPINION because it varies from the rest so if that get's ya'll off, glad you enjoy it. The Zone would be glad to have you back.
I thought Frank was a better athlete, more athletic, more physical, and a better leader. Not getting drug into anymore argument until Baze makes it or fails in the NBA. We can compare them in a couple of years.

RE: Baze
This is a ridiculous argument IMO. Each athlete mentioned has a different skill set and we are comparing apples to oranges. Verlander or Frank could never suit up at SG and do what Baze does. Baze could never pitch like Verlander or dominate the paint like Frank. Peyton Manning couldn't play linebacker like Ray Lewis and vice versa. Based on the definition of athleticism, we would have to put the 3 of them on a tennis court, golf course, soccer field, football field, baseball diamond, lacrosse field... etc. to really get an answer of who os the overall best across the spectrum. My money would be on Baze, but that is just speculation.

It's amazing that we're hoping for a long-shot in Baze just getting picked tonight, and Kentucky has had 14 guys picked in the last 3 seasons.

Thought Golden State may give him a shot . . . instead, they pick some oaf named Ognjen Kuzmic from Bosnia and Herzegovina . . . really, this is one of the things that sucks about the NBA.
