Pastner to Louisville in that case

WTF is a UCLA type player???????

A UCLA type player is the type of player recruited by UCLA.

Yes, they are, which is why I said Josh is currently recruiting UCLA type players.

Maybe if Howland had recruited Memphis type players, he wouldn't have the problems he has today.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Fuente be a candidate for a better job because he's doing a bang-up job, but turn it down because he wants to continue building what he's started.

RE: Josh Pastner, Ben Howland, and UCLA
Well, if Josh got offered the job, and he felt it was a better opportunity, then he should definitely go. Nothing wrong with advancing, if he felt it were one. UCLA is a storied program and it appears greatly in need of some leadership. Josh has proven with his actions that he is not afraid to discipline when he felt he needed to.

From UCLA's vantage point, I think they would be taking a little bit of a risk on an unproven coach (zero NCAA tourney wins to date, few victories over top teams). But I understand that potential can drive the market.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out. I do think Howland will be out, but pure guess.

RE: If Josh and Jack leave for Westwood
I would like to see us follow the model of FSU. Have one coach lead us to incredible success and stay here til he retires.

That applies to basketball, just different coaching example.

Our basketball program has had ONE coach in the last thirty years taken by another program while still coaching here. Some of the assistants have gotten jobs, but I don't think you can label us as a feeder school for coaching positions just yet.

RE: Josh Pastner, Ben Howland, and UCLA
If UCLA is hiring this year, Pastner's going to be so far down the list he might as well not be on it. Sorry. UCLA hired Howland away from Pitt after he went to three straight Big East championship games and two straight Sweet Sixteens. They'll be aiming higher than Josh.

Yeah, ole btiger's fishing expeditions are REALLY getting lame.

He used to be top shelf, an ace, the big cheese. Now he's reduced to almost desperate attempts to reel in even relative newbies.

Time marches on, my friends. Everyone gets older and loses their touch.

I would advise btiger to go troll at the elementary schools. Maybe he'll con a few of the kiddies.

Just the annual game of "let's increase his pay because he's getting interest from another school" bs.

Yes, they are, which is why I said Josh is currently recruiting UCLA type players.

Well, according to that waste of time article on SI, UCLA players are typically not top ranked recruits and more under the radar type of players that the coach can get to buy into a team system. So if that is true, how are the top 100 recruits that Pastner recruits UCLA type players?

UCLA pursues top talent, so does Memphis. They often recruit the same players.

They are going to swing for the fences on a big name hire like UK and UNC.

My guess is it is to early for Josh to be offered a position like that. He has had one NCAA appearance and it was an immediate loss to Arizona. I wonder if the UCLA AD is going to look for more than that kind of record. This is nothing against Josh, it is just that I would think UCLA is going to go for someone with a bigger national name in NCAA basketball right now.

Wonder what the reaction would be if we stole Cuonzo? He beats Vandy and UK beats FL then he's sitting with a SEC 2 seed and first round bye. The guy just might back them into the dance after all.

Hey, I have btiger on ignore, but read some of his posts. He puts good stuff out there, quite often trumpeting women's soccer.
Sometimes he has an off game.
Cut him some slack.
He's giving 100%. Perhaps he just doesn't have it today.
