RE: Josh Pastner, Ben Howland, and UCLA
Parrish said yesterday that UCLA should throw the bank at Pitino and he might take it. It gets Quick Rick out of Calipari's shadow and in a big glamourous city.
*** not sure the # or quality of Italian restaurants in LA, but I'm sure there are plenty of them with sturdy tables.

RE: "Memphis Is Where I Want To Be"
btiger is right. Obviously we are about to become the new Depaul in the Big East. Assuming the Big East even still exists in 2013, there is a very good chance it will all fall apart and we will be forced to play in the Great West or SWAC.
Let's all face facts. We are a Women's Soccer school now. Let's all start acting like it.

How much does Josh covet the UCLA job? He told Gary Parrish on air yesterday that he will be in Memphis as long as he can, but what does that really mean? As with Calipari and the KY job, the UCLA job is one of the most revered coaching positions in the game. Josh is an incredible recruiter, and improving as an overall coach. He is in the dawn of what is on track to become an accomplished career. Hearing his name mentioned in connection with a possible coaching vacancy shouldn't surprise anyone here. However, UCLA isn't just your run of the mill coaching vacancy.

1. Gives him a chance to move to a dream job before getting caught by the NCAA.
2. Gets him back into a more urban/civilized environment.
3. If there's not already skeletons in the closet, gives him a chance to move to a job without leaving dead bodies behind.
4. If there's already skeletons in the closet, see #1.
5. Might be able to recruit athletes that want to go to college.
Moving from KY to UCLA would be a lateral move for Calipari. The logical next step in his career would be to accept a head coaching position in the NBA.

How's that different than Kentucky?

That's a crock. If UCLA needs to make a coaching change in basketball, that money will appear this afternoon.

If UCLA comes knocking on Rick Pitino's door he has to answer, the same applies to Pastner.

Agreed, tough economic times for the general population does not translate into tough economic times for UCLA booster.

RE: If Josh and Jack leave for Westwood
I long for the day when our head football coaching job can become a stepping stone job like our head BB coaching job.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Fuente get poached by a "better" FB school because he does such a bang up job here.

In fact, I don't see Howland being fired as Andy Katz pointed out, they just spent a lot to buyout Neuhiesel's contract in football and wouldn't have the money to do the same in basketball in these tough economic times.
But, say they did, and JP was offered the job, it wouldn't be as if we couldn't replace him with a BCS proven coach. Times are much different now than they were when the snake bit us and left us to die. Coaches knew under Cal there would be fallout and there was, with the Rose situation. Now all of that is in the past, this is a top 10 job and with the talent we have coming back and in, it wouldn't be hard to find a solid, if not better replacement.
Another thing is that Shaq is signed and the only way he could get out is if the UM let him out. But, he would NOT be able to go play for Josh due to new rules.
If JP did take an open UCLA position, now's not the time for a young coach who is still learning how to coach to take over such a historical program. They would eat him alive and spit him out in Hollywood.
I don't want Josh to leave, yet. But if he does, then good luck to him and we'll be fine in the process. That all being said, he's not going anywhere, at least not to LA or UCLA, and this thread is a waste of all of our time.
Btiger, you can do better than this. Where's the latest info on that new stadium downtown?
UCLA is spending $200M to renovate Pauley Pavilion. I think that they could find a few extra bucks if they needed to get rid of Howland.
The rules don't say that a recruit can't follow a coach to another school. They only say that a clause can't be added to a NLI that would release the recruit if the coach leaves, i.e the Calipari rule.
If Josh were to go to UCLA he would have about 50 BTigers to deal with
