toughest ever, because I don't think they've ever had to replace 9 starters on defense... ever. DO I think they can rebuild? Sure I do.. nothing has shown me they can't.. but it's still going to be a challenge. But just because you can recruit in an 5-star area, doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be successful at it every year.

Agree that recruiting 5 star athletes does not equate to winning, but Peterson is "not your average Bear." The guy knows how to win even with 3 star athletes year end and year out.

I think Boise will do well but there will be a let down, but that is due to the fact I think a lot of uniformed people will expect an undefeated to one loss team and that is a big expectation.

+1. I have a lot of respect for BSU. By saying they pulled a "con job" on the Big East, I don't mean to imply they won't continue to have a winning program. Petersen is a terrific coach and they will. But let's face it, they convinced an AQ conference based in Providence, Rhode Island to add a regional master's university that's in a small city in Idaho. BSU did it by creating the impression that they'll field a top-10 caliber football team for years to come. But next year it's unlikely they'll even have a top-25 caliber team. How will the Big East feel about adding BSU if a year from now they've just finished the season 7-5?

Marinatto can call up Larry Scott and the Pac 12 and ask how they feel about 7-5 Utah. Big difference from their days in the MWC and they had a pretty easy schedule for their first year in the PAC.

Boise State has finished 8 of the last 10 seasons ranked in the top 20 (4 of those in the top 10)... that transcends quarterbacks and players, they just keep restocking. Small market or not, they've been a ratings winner for ESPN, so much so, their games were on the network more than any other program over the last three seasons. The other programs got in via their television markets, Boise State got in on their field performances.

The Pac 12 had only two programs in the top 40 of the BCS - hell they had four teams ranked worse than the lowest Big East member #79 'Cuse -- so not saying much good about the Pac or Utah, but the Utes did get pounded by Boise State 26-3 in their last meeting...

And after all that no National Title consideration and only two BCS bowls (with one against a nonAQ) and why because nobody from the AQs / pollsters gave Boise credence playing a WAC schedule. Great team no doubt though.

Which is why they're jumping at the bit to now be in the Big East. Can't exclude them, if they earn it through AQ!

Boise's OOC schedule is tough next year but 9-3 seems very viable. To say they would go 7-5 would mean they would lose every game that is a realistic competitive game. That's just a joke..

Their defense is going to take a step back next year and it's never just a given that a new QB will step in and be good. I really can't make any reasonable predictions about what their record will be next year. Anything that happened wouldn't surprise me. If they won 10 or more games I couldn't say I'd be shocked, just like if with all they are losing they missed a bowl game that wouldn't surprise me either. It will be very interesting to see.

Boise had a sophmore and freshman QB take snaps. sophmore had 30 attempts completing 23.

To have Boise finish with 7 losses next year would be one of the biggest shocks of anything I've seen in a long time.
That would mean they would lose to
Michigan St- ok very possible
Miami (OH)- not going to happen
BYU- possible
So Miss- possible
so 1-3 OOC is very possible...
in conference
Colorado St- no
Fresno- no
San Diego St- very possible
UNLV- no
Hawaii- remote
Nevada- remote
New Mexico-no
Wyoming- remote
So, I have 4 very possible losses.
then 3 games- Hawaii, Nevada, and Wyoming are even remote possibilities
They're not losing to Colorado St, Fresno, UNLV, New Mexico, Miami
For them to not go to a bowl would mean they would need to lose every game that is a remote possibility. That's just not going to happen.

Never said I expected it, or predicted it, but when you lose the # of starters Boise is you never can be certain what's going to happen that next year. A bad season can happen to any team with large personnel changes. I'd say 7-10 wins is more likely that missing a bowl, but I'm sure no one reasonably thought Texas was going to go from playing in the national title game to missing a bowl the next year.
